As we continue to push the boundaries of what's possible, we're seeking a visionary leader to join our Finance department as a Head of Risk. About the role Reporting to the Director of Strategy Implementation and Risk, the Head of Risk will provide institutional leadership and stakeholder engagement on a University wide-basis, as well as for major programmes and projects. This will include responsibilities for financial and commercial risk, and support of the University’s audit function (both internal and external audits). As the Head of Risk, you will provide oversight and leadership in the continued development and assurance of the University Risk Management Policy and Framework including chairing of the Risk Management Group, a network of senior leaders and managers who have risk responsibilities. This includes continuous improvement of associated risk templates, impact and appetite statements, and standard reports. Your role will focus heavily on internal audit planning and operational risk, with emphasis on the College and University Services risk registers and all subsequent registers at School, function and project levels. You will provide independent and objective scrutiny/challenge to all risk registers and reports, openly and constructively challenging where risk articulation and mitigation do not meet key criteria for regulatory, business continuity or sustainability requirements. In this senior role, you will apply expertise and influence in a risk consultancy capacity, shaping and fostering a culture that promotes cooperation, compromise, collegiality and collective ownership of Risk management across the University, by working in close collaboration with the appropriate Heads of Finance and Risk Managers. Although working in close collaboration with the appropriate functions, the role excludes management of Health & Safety and Cybersecurity risk management. About you With substantial experience in a senior risk management role, operating within a complex public/private sector environment, you will have a proven track record of successfully developing, managing and delivering large scale,complex, risk mitigation strategies and delivery plans. In addition, you will have significant experience at a leadership level of financial and commercial risk analysis, audit oversight and leading operational or enterprise risk management frameworks You will possess an expert knowledge of the principles, theories and practices surrounding financial risk management, and will be able to apply this when delivering expert advice and guidance on best practice risk management. The role will be expected to act in a leadership capacity and drive forward stakeholder Engagement, therefore high-level influencing and interpersonal skills,  with an ability to build credibility quickly and deliver impact across complex organisations, is essential.
