Head of Stage

This position is based at The Princess Theatre, Torquay, and is South Devon’s largest regional theatre with a capacity of nearly 1,500 patrons. We showcase the best West End and touring productions from across the UK, averaging 200, performances a year. You will be working on a wide variety of productions, one-night concerts and our annual pantomime. All of which will need a dynamic approach to tailor the customer experience to our diverse audiences.
Job Purpose
- Lead on the facilitating an crewing of Stage performances, concerts and related activities within the agreed schedules and budgets.
- Assist the Technical Manager in the maintenance of the building and its infrastructure, ensuring prompt and appropriate action is taken within the budgetary and operational constraints.
- Support the Technical Manager in all other aspects of the department’s activities and to deputize in the Technical Manager’s absence.
- Assist the Technical Manager in the implementation and monitoring of procedures and facilities in accordance with the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations (1999), relating to all theatre employees, visiting companies, contractors, and patrons and ATG’s risk management system.
Skills and Experience Required
- Work and lead as required on show fit-ups, get-outs and as show crew on productions. Flexibility is key and the ability to cover absences at short notice is important. As duty technician, response to fire alarm activations and carry out an important role in the investigation and evacuation procedure backstage.
