An exciting leadership opportunity has arisen for a Head of Technical Services to join the University’s Estates team.
About the role
Reporting to the Assistant Director (Hard FM), in this role you will provide strategic leadership, management, and direction on essential University Campus Technical Services functions, including building services engineering, electrical and mechanical systems, PPM/lifecycle maintenance management, and technical support.
Our Technical Services team support our vast and diverse Estate, comprised of over 300 building, ranging from listed properties, to large, new build, state of the art learning and research facilities. You will act as a specialist adviser on all Technical Services support matters, offering expert professional advice, guidance on information on specialist Technical Services provision, as well as reporting and briefing on proposed plans, issues, incidents, and emergencies.
With a team of 3 direct reports, and overall responsibility for circa 40 operational staff across the services, you will lead the delivery of a consistently high quality, integrated, responsive, and customer-focussed technical service, that delivers value for money, and supports the aims and objectives of the University’s strategy. You will be responsible for overseeing complex maintenance tasks, infrastructure management, and the conservation of the listed estate. You will ensure that all work adheres to compliance requirements as set out in the design standards, and will have oversight for health, safety, and legal statutory compliance maintenance for all estate assets – this will include ensuring work is carried out in a way that provides a safe environment for our staff, students, and visitors.
About you
The successful candidate for this post will have strong technical knowledge of facilities management and operational support functions, as well as working knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation and a solid understanding of budgetary management.
With strong leadership and management skills, and the demonstrable ability to recruiting, developing, and structuring high performing teams, you will have significant leadership and management experience within a complex, customer-facing environment.
You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues in the delivery of key strategic initiatives, therefore high-level influencing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to quickly build credibility and delivery impact at all levels is essential.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week, Monday- Friday) and open-ended (permanent). Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.
