Location Overview:

The Team:

Based in several locations in Europe and internationally, this role provides considerable exposure to senior executives inside and outside the bank. Equally, you will liaise with senior stakeholders in the US and Exco members in EMEA. Exposure to private offices of Governors of Central banks, national politicians, Ministers, officials is also part of the role.

Role Description:

You will be the Head of UK Government Affairs based in London. Bank of America Public Policy serves as an advocate on public policy, geopolitical, legislative and ESG issues that are important to the Firm. It works closely on policy initiatives and legislative matters at all levels to help the institution manage and grow its businesses, advising senior management and business lines on a wide range of issues. The Public Policy team meet and work with policy makers, legislators, regulators, and international officials to ensure that the concerns of Bank of America are heard and understood. They also work closely with financial services industry trade associations to represent the varied interests of the Firm.

  • Keeping top management appraised of the political and legislative environment within the UK so as to inform the firm’s strategy.

  • Developing and executing strategies on key legislative and regulatory issues for our businesses, to policy makers.

  • Developing contacts with officials, the government and the opposition, particularly in relation to the city agenda.

  • Advocacy vis-à-vis UK officials, MPs and regulatory clients in the UK to ensure the Firm’s key messages are effectively communicated.

  • Co-ordinating responses, as needed, on consultation exercises from government entities

  • Representing the Firm at industry groups and trade association meetings.

  • Acting as central support to senior management who represent the Firm externally.

What we are looking for:

  • Significant, relevant work experience in public policy in the financial services sector, either in-house or in Government bodies or related agencies.

  • Proven knowledge of the legislative/regulatory framework applicable to the financial services industry in the UK.

  • In-depth knowledge of the UK policymaking process, as well as an understanding of EU and international policymaking processes.

  • Understanding of UK and international policy developments, particularly in respect of financial services and the ESG agenda.

  • Strong networking skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to write and edit a range of content at speed.

  • Perfect command of written and spoken English. Additional European languages would be a distinct advantage.
