We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Health and Safety Advisor to join our team in Leeds. Working as part of Sweco's internal H&S team, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the Health and wellbeing of our employees. By implementing effective safety policies and procedures, delivering advice and expertise, proactively promoting the use, understanding and adherence to Sweco's H&S Management System and reinforcing a positive culture of continual improvement in regards to Health and Safety.
What does the role involve?
- Proactively promoting a positive H&S culture, best practice and compliance to policies and procedures, working with others to increase H&S awareness across all areas of the business in line with company and legislative requirements.
- Working with the H&S Manager and team to deliver the H&S elements of the strategic plan and provide support on all H&S matters.
- Providing advice to colleagues on H&S matters such as accident and incident investigation, DSE assessments, legal compliance, training needs, CDM, project related requirements and Safety procedures.
- Supporting bid and tender submission with the produce of the H&S related information.
- Supporting the H&S Manager with internal and external H&S audits, e.g. providing and producing documentation, audit prep, attendance in audits, completing audits and closing out actions.
- Work with and support H&S systems ensuring all information is available and correct.
- Develop and deliver in-house training in relation to identified H&S training needs.
- Carrying out office/site audits and inspections, including monitoring and advising employees on safe working practices.
- Providing accurate information to the management team on accident stats and assisting with solutions to eliminate, reduce risk or reoccurrence and near misses in relation to accidents.
- Providing support to office H&S Representatives to ensure legal compliance across all Sweco offices in the UK/Ireland.
What do you need to be successful in this role:
You'll have obtained GradIOSH (or working towards) as a minimum but Chartered membership is preferable, along with a NEBOSH diploma or equivalent to a level 5/6 qualification in H&S (or working towards). You'll have gained H&S experience preferably in a construction / engineering environment, where you'll have experienced developing and implementing policies and initiatives to minimise health, safety and environmental risks.
You’ll have strong technical knowledge across relevant H&S legislation, compliance and regulations. Excellent organisation, collaboration and written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with strong IT and systems skills. You'll be passionate about H&S and the environment and will demonstrate pride in your work and take responsibility for personal development and the learning of others.
