Health Care Support Worker

Position : Band 3 Health Care Support Worker

Location: HR6 8JH, HR9 5AD, HR7 4QN

As a Band 3 Health Care Support Worker, you will provide essential assistance and support to patients and healthcare professionals within a clinical setting. Working under the direction of registered nurses and other healthcare staff, you will perform a variety of duties to ensure the comfort, safety, and well-being of patients. Your role will involve providing direct care, assisting with activities of daily living, and maintaining a clean and organized environment to facilitate efficient healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, and mobilizing, respecting their dignity, privacy, and autonomy.
2. Monitor and record vital signs, such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, reporting any abnormalities or concerns to nursing staff.
3. Support patients with mobility and transfers, using appropriate techniques and equipment to prevent injury and promote independence.
4. Assist healthcare professionals with clinical procedures, such as wound care, catheterization, specimen collection, and simple dressing changes, following established protocols and guidelines.
5. Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families, responding to their needs and concerns with empathy and compassion.
6. Perform basic administrative tasks, such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and maintaining patient records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality at all times.
7. Clean and sanitize patient care areas, equipment, and supplies according to infection control standards and protocols, contributing to a safe and hygienic environment.
8. Stock and replenish supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate levels are maintained to support patient care activities and minimize disruptions.
9. Escort patients to appointments, tests, and procedures within the healthcare facility, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the process.
10. Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and performance reviews, contributing ideas and feedback to improve service delivery and patient care outcomes.

Qualifications and Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service role preferred.
• Basic understanding of healthcare procedures and terminology.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards patients and their caregivers.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and responsibilities.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation purposes.
