Health Information Officer

£28,000 - £30,450 per year

Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Hybrid working with regular travel to our London Bridge Office

What the job involves

At Prostate Cancer UK we are looking for an experienced, dynamic and innovative patient information professional to join our Health Information team. We produce award-winning Health Information that ensures people with or who are worried about prostate cancer have access to clear, evidence-based, high-quality and impartial resources that can support them throughout their prostate cancer journey.

The team puts the needs of our service users at the heart of its work and it’s more important than ever that we can understand and respond flexibly. We’re also striving for even greater inclusivity and accessibility so that our service meets the needs of the diverse populations we serve.

The charity currently carries the Patient Information Forum’s (PIF) Tick, which commits us to producing all our Health Information to its standards of quality. We rely on insight from men with lived experience of prostate cancer and healthcare professional expertise to produce high quality information. We also work closely with our clinical nurse specialists and clinical data teams to ensure our information is based on the latest evidence and clinical practices.

As a Health Information officer, you’ll develop new and review existing Health Information that empowers men to make informed choices about the healthcare they receive. You’ll be part of a team that supports men on every step of the prostate cancer journey; from raising the awareness of men at high risk, to guiding them through the diagnostic pathway and helping them decide on treatment options that are right for them.

You’ll be critical to maintaining the smooth running of production processes across print and digital formats to a dedicated three-year cycle. You’ll also contribute to the ongoing evaluation of our Health Information resources and service, making sure they’re efficiently and effectively meeting the needs of those affected by prostate cancer.

What we want from you

You’ll know how to critically appraise and communicate complex information to lay audiences in writing and be very familiar with writing digital Health Information. You’ll understand ways of engaging with service users and healthcare professionals to shape our Health Information and strive to ensure that you’re inclusive of the diverse prostate cancer population we serve.

With experience in working to tight deadlines, you’ll be able to work with flexibility and partnering with the team to work collaboratively. You’ll be able to demonstrate empathy, working with those who are affected by prostate cancer and understanding and addressing the difficulties they present or experience.

Why work with us?

Every man needs to know about the most common cancer in men – prostate cancer. It’s a real and present danger that takes over 12,000 of our dads, grandads, brothers and friends each year.

Prostate Cancer UK is the largest men’s health charity in the UK. We have a simple ambition – to stop prostate cancer damaging lives. We invest millions in research to revolutionise testing, treatment and care. We’re blazing a trail to a screening programme that could save thousands of lives with regular, accurate tests for all men at risk. And we work tirelessly to spread the word about risk and offer specialist support to people living with the disease.

Work with us and you’ll see your efforts pay off as we give men and their families the power to navigate prostate cancer.

What we offer

Join our team and be part of an award-winning charity. We’ll support you to develop your skills and expertise.

We offer a competitive benefits package, including:

  • Generous leave entitlements that increase with service

  • One ‘development day’ a month to use for training or personal development

  • Enhanced contributory pension scheme

  • Life insurance and group income protection

  • Health Cash Plan

  • Life and wellbeing advice and support via our Employee Assistance Programme

  • Discounted gym membership and high street shopping discounts

  • Loans for season tickets or cycles

Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion

At Prostate Cancer UK, we believe that equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to building a strong and innovative workplace, that represents, and can advocate for, the communities we support. It’s our ambition to become an anti-racist organisation, and our mission to advance racial equity in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.

We’re incredibly proud of our new Black Men’s Racial Health Equity Campaign, and our inclusive learning journey. We know that reaching marginalised communities that need us most, particularly Black men who are at a higher risk of prostate cancer, starts with better representation in our organisation. Therefore, we’re particularly interested in applications from those from marginalised and vulnerable communities. This will help us create an environment of inclusion where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work, where personal qualities are as important as professional experience, and our people feel seen and heard.

Our people networks

We’re learning more about the needs of our colleagues, and we’re excited to have recently launched three new people networks, sponsored by our Leadership team:

  • Pride – A safe space where LGBTQ+ colleagues — and our allies — can share their diverse lived experiences, celebrate LGBTQ+ culture and history, and create new ideas about how our organisation can be more inclusive and representative of LGBTQ+ people

  • Mind & Body – Here to increase awareness, promote wellbeing and support colleagues affected by neurodiversity, mental health problems, disability and long-term illness

  • Multicultural – Here to increase awareness and celebrate the different cultures and beliefs that we have in the organisation, so that we all have our cultures felt and feel welcomed

Wellbeing and hybrid working

Our hybrid working approach combines the best of flexible working – a positive work/life balance, inclusive and accessible platforms, and online information at our fingertips. We understand that everyone has different needs, and we strive to create opportunities for relationship building, collaboration and social time.

Each of our teams has a team agreement outlining when and how often we’re expected to be in our London Bridge office. We’re very welcome to work there more frequently. Office time is a commute, so we pay our own travel costs.

For this role, we would expect the successful candidate to be coming into the London office two to three days per month.
