Elevate your career potential with our exceptional Fast Track Scheme.
The Department of Health and Social Care is a fantastic place in which to learn new skills and pursue an exciting career path. As the government department tasked with safeguarding the nation’s health, it is vital that we have forward-thinking policy teams who are capable of devising the future strategy for England’s health and care system. Join our 3-year Fast Track Scheme, and you could play in instrumental role in this work, helping ensure the funding and the legislation are in place to support these plans.
Based in either Leeds or London, you will have the opportunity to take on a number of placements in which you will learn the practicalities of bringing health and social care policy to life. With access to a wide range of placements within the department – such as health and care services, Private Offices and Arm’s Length Bodies – you could get involved in anything from devising innovative women’s hubs and cutting-edge services, through to understanding how we can improve the working environments of NHS workers.
Working towards a fully financed postgraduate qualification in Health and Social Care Policy which you will complete in the second and third years of the scheme, you will benefit from a fully supported study package, before taking up a leadership-level role in DHSC once you have completed the scheme. With plenty of guidance not only from your line manager, but also from colleagues who have previously completed the scheme, mentors and more, you will find plenty of support from day one. You will also have the chance to build a valuable network of contacts, as you will work with stakeholders across the department, government and devolved governments, so this opportunity offers a great degree of visibility in a truly fast-paced and fascinating field.
If you are passionate about England’s health and social care sector, and you would like to play an active part in making this even better, then this could be the perfect role for you. To be equal to the challenge, you will therefore either have a 2:1 degree in any subject, or you will be a current civil servant who has completed their probation period. Most crucially, your personal skills will make you an excellent candidate for the scheme. With great communication, influencing and leadership skills, you will have sound judgement with the capacity to manage and utilise a large amount of information. We are looking for people who bring a proactive mindset to every challenge, so if you enjoy analysing social, economic and technological information to anticipate risks and opportunities, then you will excel in our team.
Against the backdrop of a truly inclusive and diverse working environment in which your life experiences will be valued by your peers, this is a unique opportunity to do something great with your career. We know we can build even better health and social care services if we have people from all walks of life, so you will always be encouraged to bring your whole self to work. We will also provide you with a competitive benefits package that includes generous annual leave, access to our desirable contributory pension scheme and numerous reward options.
