Job description

We are looking to recruit a Band 2 Health Care Support Worker to join our nursing team within out busy Outpatients Department here at Airedale.
37.5 hours per week.
The above hours will be worked across 4 days, currently Monday to Friday to meet the needs of the service. Weekends may be included in the near future.
Previous Outpatients experience within a hospital setting would be advantageous, but if you are a dynamic team player and a team leader and up for a challenge of working across a variety of specialities then you could be just the person we are looking for.
As a member of the departmental team to carry out duties working in support of and supervised by the trained nurse in charge. To assist trained nursing staff by performing a wide range of duties for which formal nurse training is not required.
At all times to respect the confidential nature of the work involved.

We are a national centre for telemedicine and introduced telehealth to the UK offender healthcare sector and also provide the service to patients in their care homes. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepare and set up clinics, including trays and trolleys, preparing examination, treatment and consulting rooms, contributing to the health, safety and security of individuals and their environment.
2. Prepare patients for examination by the doctor, chaperoning when necessary. Assist patients to dress and undress and with positioning as required. Promoting equality and anti-discriminatory practice and protecting individuals from abuse.
3. Ensure all patients are relatives are treated with respect and dignity. Give clear, concise instructions to enable patients to find the correct clinic, escorting them if they have difficulty.
4. Weigh patients in the designated area without embarrassment and record information in patients’ notes.
5. Assist patients with toilet needs, observation of, recording and saving of specimens as requested.
6. Care of linen and disposal of soiled linen, whilst being aware of hazards of cross infection.
7. Report to the clinic nurse any changes in patients’ condition or information given by the patient which is important to their treatment.
8. Assist in maintenance of consumer needs.
9. Be aware of the Outpatients Standards, giving due regard to keeping patients informed of any delays or changes to clinic.
10. Answer the telephone, record and deliver messages, referring to the trained nurse if in difficulty.
11. Carry out errands between departments.
12. Maintain tidiness within the department, clearing away equipment and ensuring it is securely stored at the end of clinic sessions.
13. Be aware of steps taken to safeguard the health and safety of staff and patients, reporting hazards to the Sister in the Outpatient Department.
14. Be aware of hospital policies, i.e. disciplinary, grievance, fire and major accident and manual handling. Attend annual mandatory training.
15. Assist in other departments as requested by the Sister (OPD) or Access Manager, being flexible in the hours and shifts worked to accommodate the needs of the department.
16. Attend KSF reviews.
17. Assist with obtaining, transmitting and storing information related to the delivery of care.
18. Participate in the movement of patients and equipment between departments as required, supporting patients in transaction from one care setting to another.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:
1. Demonstrate the suitability to undertake an appropriate care aware relevant to the department.
2. Demonstrate the commitment to achieving the award through periodic KSF review.
GENERAL DUTIES:
1. You are require to co-operate with supervisors, managers and other employees to achieve a healthy and safe environment, to take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of other persons who may be affected by your actions, to carry out your responsibilities in ways that help to ensure a safe and healthy place of work.
In the course of your work you are to bring to the attention of your supervisor or manager: -
Any situation which reasonably could be considered to represent a serious or immediate danger to the health and safety of any person.
Any matter which reasonably could be considered to represent a shortcoming in the Trust’s health and safety protection arrangements
2. Lift and manoeuvre people, heavy goods and equipment in accordance with manual handling regulations and good practice.
3. Smoking Policy:
Employees, trainees and volunteers will not be permitted to smoke while they are on duty (irrespective of their location) or in the grounds of Airedale NHS Trust owned premises.
