JOB DESCRIPTION POST: Highly Specialist Physiotherapist for Cystic Fibrosis, Medicine, Training and Education BANDING: Band 8a Team Leader ACCOUNTABLE TO: Therapy Leads RESPONSIBLE FOR: Physiotherapists, support workers and physiotherapy students JOB SUMMARY To provide managerial and clinical leadership to the therapists providing care to patients in hospital and at home within the cystic fibrosis and medical teams ensuring high quality service delivery. To take a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients who may have highly complex needs, and to determine clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatments and to maintain clinical documentation as an autonomous practitioner. Undertake a Highly Specialist role in planning, developing, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the physiotherapy service within CF and medicine. To take a lead role in the development of the CF physiotherapy service in collaboration with the therapy leads and the CF Clinical Lead. To take a lead role in planning, developing, co-ordinating and delivering respiratory physiotherapy training for therapy staff. To participate in the oncall and weekend rota. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES CLINICAL To undertake physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose and implement agreed treatment plans if appropriate including the routine treatment of complex patients in a manner that respects peoples privacy, dignity, and individuality. Treatment will involve the use of a range of skills appropriate to medicine and the speciality of CF, evidence based and in line with current practice. To undertake advanced practice appropriate to the area of speciality e.g., non-medical prescribing. To work collaboratively with the therapy teams and the wider MDT to ensure delivery of a co-ordinated multi-disciplinary service. To ensure effective internal and external two-way communication with patients, carers and all other Health and Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care. To supervise students and junior staff in their treatments and to ensure ongoing education in all aspects of treatment and care. To provide specialist advice in clinics, ward rounds and MDT meetings. To undertake relevant research and audit with the CF specialism, preparing abstracts and presentations for regional, national, and international meetings and conferences. To actively participate in the on-call rota. To lead on innovations in the delivery of care To work autonomously within the department taking into consideration the normal parameters of policies and procedures. MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP To co-ordinate the CF and medical therapy team at an operational level ensuring the efficient running of the service, effective communication, and dissemination of information, by leading the team. Work closely with divisional colleagues to ensure effective service delivery, supporting the Therapy Leads with the operational planning and delivery of the service. To provide relevant accurate data as required. Responsible for the CF physiotherapy equipment. To oversee the supervision of Physiotherapists, support workers and Students. To support the Therapy Leads in achieving the service and department objectives as part of the senior therapy team. To undertake relevant research and audit within CF and medicine. To work collaboratively with the senior therapy team to ensure the safe delivery of therapy services across the whole trust on a daily basis. To manage sickness, annual leave and day to day running of the CF and medical teams. ORGANISATIONAL To represent Therapies at relevant committees within the Organisation. To achieve the departmental objectives for the relevant elements of the therapy services. Contribute to the development and implementation of relevant policies. PROFESSIONAL To maintain accurate and up to date records. To comply with the HCPC codes of professional conduct. To be a positive role model, adhere to the values and behaviours of the trust, and support and promote Allied Health Professions within the Organisation. QUALITY To monitor and maintain quality standards across Therapy Services. Ensure strong communication links with all Therapy Services staff and the wider MDT. To be responsible for service and workforce development required to meet the needs of our patients and the Organisation. Continue to further own knowledge through on going professional development from a variety of sources. To contribute to the dissemination of good practice across the Organisation and wider health service.
