Things you need to know

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths and Experience.

How to Apply

Your application will include:

  • A CV, to include your job history over the past 5 years and a summary of experience and what you have delivered and any key achievements in each role.
  • In both the CV and Personal Statement, we will be looking at your achievements that are relevant to the specific job role.

Additionally, you should tailor your Personal Statement to address the essential criteria.

  • A 500-word Personal Statement on how you meet the Essential Criteria. You do not need to use the full 500 word-count, and this can be demonstrated in a bullet point format.

Selection will be by sift and (if required) interview.

Further details around what this will entail are listed on the application form.

Please take extra care to tick the correct boxes in the eligibility sections of your application form. We understand mistakes sometimes happen but if you contact us later than two working days(Monday-Friday) before the vacancy closes, we will not be able to reopen your application for you. If you do make a mistake, please contact us via: ubsrecruitmentexcellence@hmrc.gov.uk – Use the subject line to insert appropriate wording for example – ‘Please re-open my application – [insert vacancy ref] & vacancy closing date [insert date]’

To check that you are eligible to apply for this role, please review the eligibility information before submitting your application.

Sift

A preliminary sift on the Essential Criteria will be conducted and only candidates meeting the criteria will progress.
Those applications progressing to a full sift will be assessed using the CV and Personal Statement which will be given a combined score.
If an initial sift is not required, candidates will be assessed using the CV and Personal Statement (scored together).

Candidates who are successful at the sift stage and progress to interview will be interviewed online.

Interview

We will assess you against these behaviours during the interview process:

  • Communicating and Influencing
  • Working Together

The interview process will include Behaviours (Communicating and Influencing and Working Together) and Strengths-based questions.

The Strength-based questions look at a combination of what people are good at and what they enjoy doing. They focus on specific areas which motivate, naturally enthuse, and excite candidates. The best way to prepare is to reflect on what you feel your personal strengths are and your preferred way of working. It’s important to remember that there are no right or wrong answers to these questions. The panel will be looking for your unrehearsed initial response. You will not be notified of the strengths being tested before your interview.

This is an example of a strengths-based question:

“It is often said that the customer's needs should come first. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?”

There is no expectation or requirement for you to prepare for the strengths-based questions in advance of the interview, though you may find it helpful to spend some time reflecting on what you enjoy doing and what you do well.

If interviews are required, they will be conducted over Teams.

Sift and interview dates to be confirmed.
Start dates may not be agreed straight away but this will be discussed further with successful candidates.
