Job description


The ward housekeeper will work as an essential part of the ward team under the direction/guidance of the Sister/Charge Nurse or his/her nominated deputy. The focus of the role is to support the neonatal nursing team with non clinical tasks and help maintain a safe, clean, comfortable environment for patients.
They will assist with meeting the needs of parents and carers on the inpatient ward by orienting families to the unit, hospital environment and facilities. Contributes to the maintenance of a safe environment and assist the nursing staff in promoting family centred care.
1.Being courteous and helpful to patients, families, colleagues and all users and visitors to the ward.
2. Clean medical equipment and ensure it is ready for use e.g. incubators, cots, pumps, phototherapy lights etc.
3. Support ward team by undertaking tasks to enhance patient care i.e. restocking ward, collection of laundry, pharmacy etc.
4. Welcome families to the unit in a friendly, professional manner, orientating them to the ward and hospital where necessary.
5. Provide accurate and timely information to patients regarding ward routines, i.e. Visiting times, meal times.
6. Provide additional refreshments to patients and families where appropriate.
7. Answer telephone, referring calls to nursing colleagues as appropriate.
8. Support ward team by undertaking tasks to enhance patient care i.e. collection of laundry
