Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority based in the East Midlands, who are recruiting for a Housing Enablement Officer on a temporary 2 month contract. The position is due to start immediately. The hourly rate of pay is negotiable up to £18.00 via an Umbrella company.

The ideal candidate will have an Enhanced DBS dated within the last 3 years, access to their own vehicle, and have proven experience of Housing Enablement Officer duties.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Acting as the first point of contact for those facing homelessness and provide initial advice in hospitals to patients who are going to be discharged

  • Using housing legislation to make initial triage decisions on patient’s homelessness status

  • Creating a smooth homelessness pathway to assist those in need

  • Responsible for dealing with and prioritising housing applications by assessing the needs of each individual case

  • Arranging future appointments and referrals for those in need of emergency accommodation

  • Refer relevant patients to local councils to ensure their housing needs are met on their discharge from hospital

  • Providing initial advice on housing options to prevent homelessness in the first instance

Experience required:

  • Previous experience working with vulnerable people

  • Knowledge of private rented sector housing and legislation

  • Experience creating plans for housing needs and assessing housing and homelessness applications

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Able to manage a caseload and to priorities their own workload and meet deadlines

  • Deal sensitively with customers/patients in difficult situations

  • Experienced in accessing Private Rented Accommodation for vulnerable people

Working hours:

  • 37.5 hours per week

  • Monday – Friday, 8am-4pm
