Vacancy: Hydrogen Technology Recycling Manager
Location: Royston

As the Hydrogen Technology Recycling Manager, you will manage an effective global research and development strategy for the Recycling of Hydrogen Technologies across PGMS business in order to create a long term circularity of critical materials for JM and partners. The HTR lead would utilise PGMS know how and deliver a novel integrated recycling process for Pt and Ir, while supporting internal and external research projects on ionomer sustainability. To monitor chemical regulations and plan for changes and mitigate risks that can interrupt the strategy. Manage a team of Development Chemists and Engineers focused on delivering of (Hydrogen Technologies Recycling) HTR processes and technologies required for the business.

Your responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the technical and commercial success of HTR at global scale by providing a robust and scalable process by defining and leading the Hydrogen Technology Recycling programme strategy and roadmap.
  • Lead and develop the global programme team with a high level of autonomy and independence, including internal support functions, in-line with programme strategy. Manage Chemistry and Engineering Lead roles, setting objectives, providing guidance, and coaching to ensure the team works together to deliver their goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and stay updated on pertinent worldwide regulations that may affect the HTR programme (such as PFAS), understand potential implications, and support relevant company initiatives in their mitigation.
  • Stay abreast of appropriate technical advances and evaluating relevance and applicability to the HTR refining processes through the review of publications and patents.
  • Develop and implement a schedule for regular IP reviews, ensuring timely and organised assessments.
  • Facilitate upward communication to ensure seamless alignment of technical and commercial HTR deliverables with the broader JM strategy and communications plan, and ensure key stakeholders are identified, engaged, and updated via appropriate stakeholder management plan.
  • Develop a sustainability strategy for the programme, emphasising the utilisation of life-cycle analysis to compare proposed flowsheets, and to deliver sustainability optimisation and risk identification for the latter.
  • Be aware of and support all programme, project and technical risks are identified and appropriately addressed by reviewing suitable mitigation measures into the programme schedule.
  • Collaborate with the IDEO team to ensure all projects within the programme are equipped with a suitable and current schedule and adhere to the required project governance procedures.
  • Ensure programme visibility of global internal and external HT market, including market dynamics and competitor activity, assessing impact on programme strategy, and integrating any required change.
  • Promote awareness and accessibility of emerging HT technologies (both internal and external), such as ionomers, catalysts and other components, as well as advance manufacturing and synthetic methods, to facilitate their integration into design for recyclability.
Requirements for the role:
  • First degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (or similar) based subject, ideally with a further degree – Essential
  • Substantial experience within research and development, process development or relevant operations experience – Essential
  • Understand the complexities of refining and develop innovative solutions to complex problems – Essential
  • Proven track record of translating technology into business competitive advantage – Essential
  • Project management skills and a track record of improvement delivery – Essential
  • Chartered status through a relevant professional body - Desirable
