Our client, a leading financial services organisation have an opportunity for an AS400 Systems Engineer to join on a permanent basis. The focus of this role is the maintenance and support the IBM i infrastructure. However the role also presents the opportunity to be involved with the installation and operation of high-availability systems, including storage, computing hardware and multiple data centres.

• Maintenance, administration and support for the IBM i hardware and operating system including patching, upgrades, performance tuning and optimisation.
• Administration of the interfaces with trading, settlement, and data provider services.
• Maintenance, administration and support of MIMIX for data replication and high-availability.
• User account administration (joiner, leavers, transfers).
• Developing utilities and programs to automate manual processes.
• Assist with the operation of other high-availability IT infrastructure services, including compute (Dell,), virtualisation (Vmware ESX), storage (NetApp), backup (Veeam) and operating systems (Windows). Duties include configuring monitoring systems, applying firmware upgrades, and identifying security issues.
• Conduct daily checks process to proactivity identify and address infrastructure or application issues.
• Providing assistance to internal and outsourced network service providers in the resolution of network and firewall problems and proactive maintenance.
• Proactively identify opportunities for improving systems and operating procedures, including automating routine tasks. Provides reports and proposals for improvement.
• Create and maintain technical documentation.
• Ensure BCP (business continuity planning) processes are maintained and tested.
• Identifies or receives operational issues (through incidents and events) and contributes to their resolution ensuring relevant activities and resolution details are recorded in the IT service management tool.
• Ensure problem prevention methods are continually applied to improve service levels and reduce costs.

• Demonstrable IBM i and IBM Power Systems experience in a systems administrator role.
• Recent experience with MIMIX replication (or similar) for availability and disaster recovery.
• RPG (III, IV, 400) or CL programming experience.
• Some experience administering the following systems in a similar role is a benefit:
  
  • Virtualisation (VMware).
  • Backup tools, (Veeam).
  • Halcyon, Scom or similar monitoring tools.
• Good understanding of networking concepts.
• Good understanding of cyber-security best practice.
• ITIL v3 Foundation or demonstrable experience working in an ITIL aligned environment.
• Experience working in a financial services, legal or insurance organisation.
• Experience with an IT Service Management tool such as Service Now, JIRA or IVANTI would be highly beneficial
