Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project is now seeking private investment with a view to start construction in 2024. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Independent Site Inspector in the Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA), a function within the Safety, Security and Assurance Directorate. INA independently assesses and monitors performance for all safety related aspects of the Sizewell C project, considering compliance against regulation, national and international best practice, and with a focus on continuous improvement, and maintaining strong nuclear safety culture. This role will oversee activities on site, and as a result is based on location at Sizewell C. There may be some opportunity to work flexibly from home, around the project activities, and we provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.
The Role
You’ll manage and coordinate the provision of proportionate oversight and assessment of Sizewell C Project undertakings with nuclear safety as the overriding priority.
The role involves relationship management, both internally and externally (including Regulators), requiring the ability to influence individuals at all levels.
You’ll be a skilled construction or safety practitioner, with the ability to work in a highly regulated assurance role.
You’ll support the ISI Manager and ISI team, in ensuring that the Sizewell C project creates and maintains a strong safety culture, good performance, and effectively manages safety risks.
You’ll Influence project decisions and direction, through clear, consistent, and unambiguous advice on project safety, quality, or regulatory requirements.
Together with the ISI team, you’ll provide independent and impartial advice, on areas including:
Safety – Nuclear, Industrial and Environmental
Construction best practice
Emergency Preparedness
Physical Security
The Skills
You’ll be a skilled safety practitioner with experience in an assurance or oversight role.
You’ll have good awareness of the UK regulatory regime, be able to communicate effectively at all levels in the organisation and be able to demonstrate high ethical behaviour, integrity, humility, and character. You’ll have experience in a large infrastructure project and / or experience in a nuclear/high-hazard regulated industry is a significant advantage.
Experience in construction, with the ability to identify and effectively challenge substandard. behaviour and practices. You will have proven track record in building relationships and influencing senior stakeholders and Regulators. Ideally, you will have detailed knowledge of relevant good practice and codes/standards in construction and industrial safety. If the above sounds like you then we would love to hear from you!
