About the role
The Information Governance & Compliance Officer will play a key role in supporting work to continuously improve Information Governance at London Councils ensuring the maintenance of probity, good governance and the enforcement and review of policies.
You will support the Head of Governance to ensure that the organisation meets its obligations and responsibilities under Information Management legislation, particularly the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), UK GDPR and Data Protection Act (DPA) on a day to day basis.
You will also co-ordinate and support the handling of complaints, in accordance with the Corporate Complaints procedure on a day to day basis and support the review of the divisional and strategic risk registers and ensure that they are reported in accordance with the agreed London Councils Risk Management Framework.

Our ideal candidate
We are looking for someone who possesses a good working knowledge of GDPR, Data Protection and FOI legislation and you should be able to provide specialist advice and guidance in a complex environment which promotes best practice across London Councils.
You will be able to provide written advice that explains complicated Data Protection/FOI issues simply and clearly to officers and members of the public.
You will also have a good understanding of Information Governance more broadly including records management and information security as well as risk management.
You will have strong customer care skills and can take a pragmatic approach to problems, working with minimal supervision. You will be able to manage a varied workload including projects, work flexibly and collaboratively, and be confident in dealing with people at all levels of the organisation as well as members of the public.
About the team
The post-holder will be part of the Corporate Governance Team which operates at the organisation’s core, with links across all directorates as well as hosted organisations including the London Office of Technology and Information (LOTI). We are a small, but hard-working team of friendly professionals delivering a range of functions including committee and member services and constitutional affairs with a reputation as an accessible and enabling team.
Whilst the service is located in Southwark Street, which is near to London Bridge, we operate in a hybrid working environment whereby you may work both in the office and from home as determined by service requirements.
