Information Governance Officer

at large. Your new role In the Information Governance Officer role, your primary responsability will be to provide direction, support and advice to Principle Officers, Heads of Departments and all departments across the Authority in relation to the data protection responsibilities.
This role will initially be based 5 days a week in the office, with scope to move into a hybrid working model in the future. 37 hours per wee with flexible hours in line with the flexi-time scheme.Key duties will include;To take the lead role in the implementation and management of Information Governance compliance procedures and activities.To be responsible for advising and monitoring the Authority's compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Data Protection Act 2018 and other linked legislation, including performance of other formal duties as defined by the legislation.Develop Service procedures in relation to Data Protection and Information Governance and provide on-going advice in this area.Provide expert advice to Members, Principal Officers, Service Managers and the SIRO on all aspects of data processing that may link directly or indirectly to sensitive and / or personal information.To monitor and advise Service managers on any legislative changes or significant legal cases relating to Information Governance that may impact on the Service.To draft and / or provide advice on legal agreements relating to the processing of sensitive and / or personal data with external organisations. This will include (but may not be limited to) Data Processing Agreements; Transfer Agreements, and Contracts.To prepare and / or provide advice on other matters which may impact on Information Governance such as MOU's; Information Sharing Protocols and Confidentiality Agreements.Create and maintain the organisation's Central Register of Processing Activities, and all legal agreements that relate to the processing of sensitive and / or personal information.Implement and Maintain a structure ongoing programme of awareness raising and training Service wide.Provide advice and assist with Information Governance queries relating to projects, programmes, procurement and collaboration / data sharing initiatives.Provide advice and assistance across the Service in relation to the preparation of Data Protection Privacy Impact Assessments and to ensure these are properly documented and regularly monitored.Investigate any potential or actual data breaches; reporting the findings to the SIRO, and to the ICO in accordance with legislation. Liaising with other departments as and when necessary throughout the investigation process, and outcomes.To investigate and action as appropriate any requests to rectify, block or erase personal data in accordance with the rights of the Data Subject.To provide advice and support to senior officers responding to any legal claims and / or enforcement action issued against the Authority relating to breaches of data protection legislation.Undertake and manage data protection audits and reviews across all Service departments that are processing personal data in order to ensure that the Authority is compliant with the legislation.To manage, investigate and resolve all complaints from individuals in relation to their rights under data protection laws, ensuring that adequate reporting mechanisms are in place for recording such complaints.Act as a central point of co-ordination for all aspects of information disclosure where that may result in the release of sensitive and / or personal data, including the monitoring of information sharing protocols / WASPI compliant agreements.To provide advice and assistance on the processing of Freedom of Information requests and any other requests for information as necessary.Build strong relationships with other partner Information Governance / Data Protection Officers to encourage sharing of knowledge, good practice and reliable information sharing arrangements.To support the wider activities of the Human Resources Department as directed by the Head of Human Resources.What you\'ll need to succeed To succeed in this role you will need previous data/Information Governance experience, familiarity of relevant legislation and a proactive approach to keeping up to date on new changes to legislation. Experience dealing with various internal and external stakeholders,
managing different requirements and ensuring all areas of the organisation are kept up to date with changes to the data protection procedures. The ability to be on site 5 days a week initially is also required, so you must have a willingness to travel to the
Carmarthen office.
