A bit about the role:
Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will act as the second most senior member of the technical team, delivering technical solutions for our customers. You will prepare, design and implement technical proposals, be involved in pre-sale activities, handle installations and deal with ongoing maintenance. Key responsibilities include:
- Meeting with customers to gain an understanding of their technical requirements and current IT systems.
- Designing Networking/Filtering/VoIP solutions to industry standards and best practice, ensuring customer needs are met and within budget guidelines.
- Completing customer Internet/Web Filtering/Firewall/Voice-over-IP installations, to a high level. This could involve assisting the end user with their own infrastructure (Network and Active directory), to ensure a smooth transition to our provided service
- Maintaining support and reviewing technical systems. (Our systems are located in TTB datacentres, Milton Keynes and Corsham, out of hours and visitations may be required.)
- Troubleshooting a variety of platforms, including Windows and Linux subsystems, Hyper-Converged Infrastructure Based on wintel technologies, firewalls, general routing and networking. (this list is not exhaustive)
- Fault fixing and problem solving (which can include out of working hours through an on-call rota) to limit customer downtime.
- Act as an escalation point for the helpdesk on higher level issues.
What we're looking for:
As the successful candidate, you will need to have experience in a similar technical role and will need to be comfortable with going out on site and to our data centres, when needed. You will have had some exposure to a managed services set up and enjoy having regular contact with customers to support their technical needs.
You will have a proven track record of supporting Network and Server Infrastructure of various scales and working knowledge of Network Switching and Vendors (i.e. Netgear, Aruba/HP, Comware, Juniper, Cisco, Ubiquity). You will also need good technical experience in things like, web filtering systems, networking, migrations and installations and troubleshooting in some of the platforms listed above.
As some of the work you will do is field based, you will need a full and current driving licence. You will also need to be happy to undertake enhanced DBS check due to us working with education customers.
