A bit about us
2024 is a big year for us as we turn 200 years young! We are proud of our long standing history in campaigning for a better world for animal welfare. We were the first to introduce a law to protect animals and have been working hard ever since to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering. Our vision is to one day live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion. And that is what we work towards every day.
The RSPCA is seeking 3 new team members to start in May 2024 to deliver critical outbound telephone support for our Inspectors and Animal Rescue Officers nationwide. In this role, you will contact the public to gather further details after initial calls to our National Control Centre. Your work will allow our officers to focus on urgent animal rescues.
- Contract: 12 Months Fixed Term
- Working hours: 35 hours / Mon - Friday 09.00 - 17.00
- On site role: National Control Centre (NCC), Capita, Meadows Road, Wath upon Dearne, Rotherham S63 5DJ
If you want to make a real difference for England and Wales' largest animal welfare charity, this could be an impactful opportunity.
Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits to recognise your contributions at RSPCA.
- 35 hour week
- Great Annual Leave benefits - 25 days annual leave on joining increasing each year to a maximum of 31 days (pro rata for part-time)

What a day might look like for you
No two days are alike for RSPCA Inspectorate Support Assistants as they juggle a variety of duties in their fast-paced roles. While their responsibilities are wide-ranging, the attached job description outlines the key tasks involved in this critical support position in the business.
An inspectorate Support Assistant will be involved in:
- Calling People of interest (POI's) following card responses to organise a re visit by an Animal Rescue Officer.
- Calling vets and owners to check they have completed actions in ensuring the animal/s have been seen by a vet.
- Undertaking outbound calls to clarify information and gain updates, and arranging for animals to go for their vaccinations.
Decision making and personal judgement is high on the agenda as you will identify if an incident can be dealt with by a volunteer and sharing outcomes inline with GDPR. Finally you may find yourself calling and liaising with external agencies such as Councils, Police etc to arrange joint visits with our field officers or to gather more information. Sound interesting?
What makes a great Inspectorate Support Assistant?
- Call centre experience (preferred but not required). Availability to start in xxxx 2024.
- Tech savviness and ability to quickly learn systems.
- Excellent communication skills, empathy, influence, and calm under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities. Eagerness to learn.
- A team-focused approach with a passion for service excellence.
- Adaptability to handle ambiguity and change.
- Resilience for challenging conversations with diplomacy, professionalism, and tact.
- Accountability and reason-driven decision making.
In addition to a can-do attitude and dedication to animal welfare, we require integrity and compassion. If this matches your skills and passions, we'd love to hear from you!
Final note from us & good luck with your application!
We are really lucky that some of our roles attract a high level of interest and for this reason we review applications as they are received, unfortunately on some occasions this means roles may close earlier than advertised; so early submissions are highly recommended.
We want to ensure we do all we can to give you a positive candidate experience through our recruitment. Whilst we do try to give feedback where we can, sometimes due to receiving high levels of applications, this may not always be possible
We recognise that a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to achieving our core mission. For this reason we actively encourage a wide diversity of applications - in particular from members of minority ethnic groups, and people with disabilities - as these candidates are currently under-represented at the RSPCA.
