Primary Purpose of the Role:

The ILS Manager for Mine Countermeasures (MCM) is part of the cross-domain TLSE capability team and will lead a team consisting of RAMT and Supportability Engineers, interacting closely with colleagues and customers in Technical Publications & Training, Obsolescence Management and Component Engineering.

The primary role is to lead for ILS in delivering packages of work in a professional manner. Develop and exploit engineering capabilities within own discipline, domain, business units or programmes, and the management of deployment of those capabilities onto a range of projects and programmes across the MCM sector, primarily at the Templecombe site.

The ILS Manager for MCM is responsible for:

  • Reviewing demand from bids and projects and input into the integrated resource management tools;
  • Ensuring that all RAMT and supportability tasks are adequately resourced and delivered within budget and schedule on all assigned projects;
  • Producing and delivering ILS products in accordance with the agreed project schedules and ILS Plan;
  • Influencing the design through driving the ‘design for support’ approach on projects; and
  • Ensuring that RAMT & supportability engineering requirements are managed as an integral part of the whole product life cycle, in order to optimise Life Cycle Cost
  • Provide RAMT, supportability / technical support, and advice to their team in accordance with supportability and engineering common processes (Chorus II). This would typically be in the areas of new processes development and / or resource (including people and facilities) development.
  • Support bids, including producing estimates for ILS (Supportability Engineering and RAMT) packages of work as well as providing expert advice to the bid team on RAMT and Supportability Engineering requirements and the conduct of the ILS Programme

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Manage the planning, allocation and deployment of team members and workload
  • Ensure team size and capability mix is optimised to ensure successful delivery of the work-package
  • Set targets, measure progress and maintain effective cost and expenditure control within local work programmes
  • Work within the engineering frameworks set out by engineering management. Ensure a culture of best practice sharing and knowledge exploitation within own area
  • Contribute to and influence business unit/project engineering policy & strategy.
  • Provide clear leadership for development of engineers in own teams. Motivate individuals to work as a team towards shared goals. Personally coach and mentor other engineers in own teams. Lead the development & continuation of successful local supply chain relationships
  • Seek & share good practice & knowledge to continuously improve own practices
  • Contribute to relevant Thales Engineering Communities of Interest
  • Contribute to the development & continuation of successful local supply chain relationships
  • Set targets for and manage own development with line manager. Seek & share good practice & knowledge to continuously improve own and team practices

Project Specific tasks and responsibilities:

  • The role may additionally have need for Project-specific skills and experience as agreed with Project and Functional Management.

Principal Relationships:

The jobholder has dual reporting lines in a matrix organisation. For project performance the reporting line is through to the Project Manager, or as otherwise determined. For functional aspects the reporting line is through to the Head of Support Engineering & Design.

The jobholder is required to develop networks & build key relationships to obtain ‘buy-in’ and cooperation in order to achieve objectives and fulfil responsibilities. Interfaces and communication shall be with all stakeholders and include, but are not limited to:

  • The appropriate Project / Programme Manager

About you:

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Degree level education – in relevant engineering, science or technology Degree or equivalent experience is desirable

Or

  • HND qualified with significant engineering experience
  • Meet the requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council and preferably be a member of a relevant Professional Body
  • Typically experienced in at least one engineering domain, with knowledge of associated and contributory domains
  • Good working experiences in preferably more than two phases of the lifecycle with sufficient experience of the total engineering lifecycle to enable a good understanding of adjacent lifecycle phases and through life engineering issues.
  • Experience of technical and commercial contact with customers, partners and suppliers
