Interim Procurement Manager

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Interim Procurement Manager to take on this 12-18 month FTC with our structural steel fabrication client near Thirsk!
This is an autonomous managerial co-ordination role, leading an operational purchasing team of 8 who are based at various sites across the North of England.
This highly capable team is responsible for the full purchasing activity of the entire PLC group, working with designers to establish customer need and source products directly from the foundry.
There will be a requirement to be on site in Thirsk (and occasionally travel to other sites) 3 days per week, so you must be able to commit to this before applying.   

Responsibilities:

• Monitor and manage full day-to-day purchasing activities of the team
• Promote best procurement practice within the department
• Establish, review and maintain procurement procedures associated with the procurement of materials, products and services in association with the Supply Chain Manager, sourcing the most competitive materials at all times
• Forecast price and market trends to identify changes in balance and analyse, manage and mitigate procurement risks
• Take active involvement in the trading activities around the steel stock market. Work with sales and estimating teams to inform the best windows
• Analyse current suppliers to identify potential cost saving opportunities

We're looking for someone with:

• Years of experience within operational Procurement/Purchasing positions (UK experience essential)
• Proven experience of managing and developing teams of Buyers and co-ordinators
• Experience of the Steel industry (ideally purchasing steel, but foundry experience is still of interest)
• An understanding of volume manufacturing (not FMCG), fabrication or construction is preferred
• Knowledge of trading steel is highly desirable (NOT essential)
• Ability to be on site 3 days per week in Thirsk
• Able to work autonomously and drive from the front
