Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced accountant to join their team on a 6-month interim basis. The accountant will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, proficiency in accounting software, and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across various departments.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT EXCLUSIVE TO:
- Responsible for monthly TB preparation and submission to Group Finance. This includes analysing and commenting on key variances and reviewing with the Finance Manager for the business unit to identify and correct any errors.
- Posting month-end journals as needed
- Managed payroll and cash transfers, collaborating with payroll team to understand new schemes and ensure accurate accounting.
- Conducted RAG-rated balance sheet reconciliations, including comments and actions, and ensured timely follow-up.
- Reviewing balance sheet reconciliations with Finance Manager and FD for the business unit
- Managed fixed asset register and journals, including those captured under IFRS 16
- Agreed intercompany balances and related settlements, resolving all discrepancies before month-end submission.
- Assisted with managing month-end responsibilities of two accounting staff, including vacation/sickness cover.
- Maintaining strong financial control and documentation across all areas of responsibility.
- Assisting Head of Record and Group Finance with system development and testing.
- Assisting with system migrations as needed.
- Monthly VAT returns.
- Assisting with external auditors for UK year-end audits, providing evidence and explanations as needed.
- Preparing statutory accounts for non-audited UK subsidiary companies with assistance from the Record to Report team.
- Assisting with VAT returns preparation and monthly review of VAT transactions with the Head of Tax.
- Assisting with data for CITB and other governments.
- Ensuring timely recharging of costs across Business Units according to agreed schedules.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent.
- Experience with large/mid-sized entities with high transaction volumes.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
- Knowledge of these systems is preferred, but not required.
- Exposure to multi-site business is advantageous.
- Construction industry experience is helpful but not required.
