How you'll make a difference
We are looking to recruit an ambitious and adaptable Senior Accountant to help ensure that the high performing Council continues to manage its resources effectively and efficiently. Working in the Management Accounts Team supporting People Department, you will liaise with the Finance Business Partner and Service Director of Resources, to focus on supporting the People Department with large projects, recovery plans and savings programmes.
What will you be doing?
- In the role you will provide financial support and guidance to service-based budget managers, supporting large projects and business cases primarily focused on ensuring the department is able to utilise its resources as efficiently as possible.
- You will lead on financial oversight of the High Needs and Schools Block, including the setting of the annual schools budgets in line with latest regulations, the local authorities Safety Valve Plan, Schools financial management and sustainability where financial difficulties are being experienced and support completion of reports for Schools Forum and Cabinet.
- As the subject matter expert, you will act as the professional lead in all related matters, offering technical financial advice and guidance and contribute towards formal reports to Cabinet and Committees.
- You will play an active role in the development and production of the annual budget, Medium Term Financial Plan and Statement of Accounts.
- In the role you will be managing a small team.
What we need from you
- It is essential that you hold a recognised professional finance qualification or significant experience of working in finance in a large organisation.
- We require you to have experience of managing and supervising a small team to effectively deliver a quality and cost effective technical financial service.
- You will have knowledge of current local government finance regulations and codes of practice
- You must be able to analyse complex data and provide solutions and recommendations to achieve appropriate outcomes and have the ability to communicate this effectively at all levels.
- To be successful in the role you will require excellent time management skills to prioritise and set appropriate
deadlines. - We require you that have experience of undertaking analysis and preparing reports with recommendation to on effective and efficient use of resources.
