Irrigation Technician / Grounds Person

Ascot hosts around 600,000 racegoers a year across 26 race days, 300,000 of whom come to the five days of Royal Ascot. Royal Ascot capacity can reach an attendance of 75,000 on a day. Ascot’s conference and events business welcomes a further 200,000 customers a year outside racing. 
Ascot aims to offer its racegoers something for everyone who wishes to be involved, and Royal Ascot’s offerings reflect this through the entry level Windsor picnic enclosure, the mid-tier Village enclosure, the central Queen Anne Enclosure and ultimately the Royal Enclosure. And incorporating up to 7000 racegoers in a wide range of private box and restaurant fine dining facilities.

ROLE
As an experienced irrigation specialist, you will be required to maintain and improve irrigation systems on all areas of the Flat and National Hunt courses. Primary accountabilities include monitoring and operating the irrigation system and performing all the duties of a Grounds Person position. You will have strong technical knowledge to carry out all aspects of water system repairs, upgrades, and preventative maintenance. You will split time between system testing/repairs and working alongside the grounds crew.
This will also involve attendance on racedays, including those that take place at weekends.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The desired candidate should:
•              Have experience in general grounds maintenance and use of relevant machinery, including experience in tractor driving. 
•              Must hold a valid Full UK Driver’s License or equivalent.
•              Be an experienced digger operator
•              Have minimum three years’ experience in irrigation 
•              Ability to interpret irrigation maps
•              Physically fit to dig trenches, lay piping, pull heavy equipment
•              Strong diagnostic, mathematical and mechanical aptitude
•              Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential 
•              NVQ level 2 or equivalent- desirable
•              PA1/PA6 spraying pesticide certificates- desirable
