Overall job purpose
We are looking for a Commercial Finance Assistant to join our Commercial Finance team, part of the internal National Finance Office based in Preston. We are looking for someone who has an interest in analysing or reporting on numbers, looking to start their careers within this field, or someone with experience of this.
In this role, you will assist the Commercial Finance Lead with financial reporting and analysis in areas such as financial-related working practices, efficient use of resources, profitability on jobs and working capital management.
You will also make an impact by being involved in data manipulation, and the interpretation and provision of data insights. Your role will also involve aspects of financial administration and supporting in the month end reporting cycle and the annual budgeting process.
Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of the business and its internal finance reporting systems and methodologies
- Apply business understanding to enable improved operational performance to be delivered within the business service lines through the production of accurate and meaningful management information with an appropriate layer of insight
- Assist the Commercial Finance Lead in supporting the firm’s service line heads, helping to drive performance improvement in areas such as:
Financial-related working practices
Efficient use of resources
Profitability on jobs
Working capital management - Adopt best practice in the production and use of management information and key performance indicators
- Develop an understanding of the firm's culture and strategy and how change is achieve
- Build excellent working relationships with appropriate stakeholders and particularly with other members of the Commercial Finance team
- Undertake specific related projects as agreed
Professional and Personal qualities
- A-Level or equivalent qualifications including GCSE grade 5-9 (equivalent to grade C or above) in Maths and English
- This role would suit somebody who has interest in analysing or reporting on numbers, looking to start their careers within this field
- You may have confidence with analysing data, if you don’t, we will look to develop these skills in you
- A strong drive and determination to tackle challenges head-on and ability to prioritise own workload effectively
- IT proficient with strong MS Excel skills
- A credible individual with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to build strong working relationships with peers and stakeholders
- Resilient and persevering to achieve deadlines or resolve problems
