Location: The Francis Crick Institute, Midland Road, London Short summary A position as a Laboratory Research Scientist (LRS) has been created at the Ancient Genomics Lab (www.skoglundlab.org) of the Francis Crick Institute, led by Dr. Pontus Skoglund. The successful candidate will contribute to the lab's projects on ancient human and pathogen DNA from human remains from Holocene Europe: including prehistory, antiquity, and medieval periods. Excellent project management, organizational skills, and interest in skeletal sampling are required. Applicants of multiple seniority levels are welcome to apply, and experience will be reflected in salary grade. https://www.crick.ac.uk/research/labs/pontus-skoglund Key Responsibilities These include but are not limited to: Searching the literature and collections for relevant samples Collaboration management: ongoing communication and returning results Sample access administration Sampling visits with partner groups and institutions Ethical handling of human remains (BABAO guidelines) Skeletal sample cataloging, storage, and return of samples Sampling of bone and teeth with a fine dentistry drill, retrieval of osseous bones and teeth Manual first molecular digestion step for DNA analysis and radiocarbon dating Designing a proposed sequencing effort based on initial DNA results Laboratory management, maintenance and supplies Key experience and competencies BSc or MSc in Archaeology, Ancient DNA, or a related field Experience with human osteology and/or skeletal sampling Understanding of European archaeology and history Strong project management skills Strong collaborative and communicative ability About us The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease.
