Laboratory Research Scientist - Paleoanthropology And Proteomics

Location: The Francis Crick Institute, Midland Road, London Short summary A position as a Laboratory Research Scientist (LRS) has been created at the Ancient Genomics Lab (www.skoglundlab.org) of the Francis Crick Institute, led by Dr. Pontus Skoglund. The successful candidate will contribute to the lab's projects on ancient protein retrieval from the paleoanthropological and megafaunal fossil record. Excellent project management, organizational skills, and interest in skeletal sampling are required. Applicants of multiple seniority levels are welcome to apply, and experience will be reflected in salary grade. https://www.crick.ac.uk/research/labs/pontus-skoglund Key Responsibilities These include but are not limited to: Searching the literature and collections for relevant samples Collaboration management: contacting collaborators, updating, and returning results Sample access administration Sampling visits with international partners and institutions Ethical handling of human remains (BABAO guidelines) Skeletal sample cataloging, storage, and return of samples Near Infrared Spectroscopy screening for protein preservation Subsampling for protein extraction Protein/collagen extraction Key experience and competencies Essential BSc or MSc in Archaeology, Ancient DNA, or a related field Understanding of key questions in Paleolithic archaeology, Paleoanthropology and human origins Experience with skeletal handling Strong project management and administrative skills Strong collaborative and communicative ability About us The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease.
