Lawyer - Compliance (Data Protection)

The Role

How would you like to work as a lawyer in heart of the music industry, helping to realise the value of music in a space where the intricacies of copyright law meet the evolving commercial realities of music writers, publishers and licensing music users across a wide variety of industry sectors?

Due to an internal move, we are looking for a Lawyer with Data Protection experience to join the team. This role sits in our corporate & compliance team and provides support across the business, with a focus in the areas of Data Protection & privacy, sanctions, competition law, modern slavery, anti-bribery and corruption and regulatory investigations.

We’re a company founded on a legal concept, and the Legal team is at the heart of everything we do. We’re the company’s in-house law firm with 25+ industry experts providing specialist legal advice across all areas of the business. We’re a grounded, solutions orientated group that strives to embrace a values led culture; we organise ourselves around the “5Cs” of Corporate, Commercial, Contentious, Compliance and Copyright. Collectively, we do strategy, policy, governance and anti-piracy as well as the nuts and bolts of legal work. We focus on continuing to develop a diverse team into essential business partners.

Responsibilities:

As our Lawyer - Compliance, your day-to-day duties will include advising on the following, with the opportunity to develop the necessary skills and expertise for the role at PRS for Music:

• Data Protection & Privacy
• Sanctions
• Competition Law
• Modern Slavery
• Anti-bribery and corruption
• Regulatory investigations and processes

• A qualified solicitor with previous experience advising on Data Protection issues, gained in-house and/or in private practice. It would be an advantage to have experience advising on other areas of compliance, including competition law.
• Degree level qualification (2:1 (or above) LLB in Law or equivalent).
• Strong Microsoft Office and other IT skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and liaising with colleagues and internal clients at all levels, external professionals, members and the public
• Knowledge of the music industry is an advantage.

The Process

Our interview process for this role is simple and as follows:

• First stage interview virtually on MS Teams.
• Second stage interview in person at our London Bridge Hub.

We use competency-based questions within our interviews. This allows you to provide examples of situations where you have had to demonstrate the required skills relevant to the role you are applying for. To assist your preparation for interview, research the STAR method to aid bringing your examples to life.

Location

Our London Bridge Hub is based within Hays Galleria and overlooks the River Thames. When you see the view, we are sure you will want to join us in our collaborative working space!

We offer a hybrid working model, allowing employees to work from home for up to 3 days per week. To ensure the health & safety of all our employees, if you wish to work from home for more than 2.5 days per week, we will conduct a quick and easy remote-working assessment.
