Lead Data Scientist

The role

The firm is on an ambitious journey to design and build both bespoke AI-driven products, as well as services that can be used across DLA Piper that enable lawyers to do their work in the most efficient and optimised way. The role of Lead Data Scientist is key to supporting firm’s innovation agenda by developing plans to explore new product opportunities and driving complex programmes of work.

This role has a significant impact on delivering on the firm’s data strategy and positioning of our firm’s brand as one of the most innovative Law Firms.

Lead Data Scientist will be crucial in analysing complex datasets, developing predictive models, and extracting actionable insights to drive business growth and innovation.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Team leadership and strategic oversight:

• Lead and mentor a team of Data Scientists in the development of machine learning models, ensuring best practices and fostering skill development
• Set the strategic direction for data science projects, aligning with the company’s goals and objectives
• Oversee the design and implementation of data strategies, ensuring they support the needs of the business
• Develop and maintain a roadmap for data science capabilities and technology advancements

Advanced data analysis and modelling:

• Collect, analyse, and interpret large, complex datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and deeper insights at a strategic level
• Lead the development and deployment of sophisticated predictive models and machine learning algorithms
• Champion the use of advanced statistical techniques and data mining methods to deliver high-impact insights

Innovation and Process Improvement:

• Drive innovation in data science practices and processes within the team
• Identify and execute on opportunities for process improvement, automation, and advanced analytics.
• Stay at the forefront of data science, machine learning, and statistical modelling techniques to maintain a competitive edge

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

• Serve as the primary data science liaison to senior management, providing strategic insights and recommendations
• Communicate complex data-driven insights to stakeholders at all levels, facilitating data-informed decision-making across the organization
• Drive the adoption of data science solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams and ensuring alignment with business objectives

ABOUT YOU

• Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a proven track record of mentoring and developing Data Scientists
• Strong business acumen with the ability to translate data insights into strategic recommendations
• Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field, with extensive experience in a senior data science role
• In-depth knowledge of machine learning, NLP, LLMs, and Generative AI, with hands-on experience in building and deploying large-scale data science solutions
• Advanced programming skills in Python and SQL, and familiarity with data science tools and frameworks
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
• Strategic and Communicative Leadership: A visionary thinker with outstanding communication skills, adept at articulating complex data concepts to diverse audiences and leading through ambiguity to prioritize and execute strategic initiatives
• Technical Proficiency and Innovation: Deep expertise in NLP and prompt engineering, combined with a proficiency in the latest data science technologies and a commitment to continuous innovation and development
• Agile Problem Solver: An ability to juggle multiple projects, adapt to a fast-paced environment, and deliver pragmatic solutions to complex problems with a product-focused mindset
• Proactive and Accountable: A self-driven individual who takes initiative, demonstrates strong ownership over their work, and is committed to upholding accountability for results
• Collaborative Stakeholder Management: Strong interpersonal skills with proven experience in engaging and collaborating with stakeholders at various organizational levels to drive data-informed decisions
