We are looking for a Lead Engineer / Lead Mechanical Design Engineer / Chief Engineer / Head of Mechanical Engineering that is excited by having the opportunity to play a key role in the growth of a cutting-edge technology developer within the UK defence sector. £5m t/o UK SME backed by £1billion group.

Your background as a Lead Engineer:

• Role would suit a Lead Engineer or Senior Design Engineer looking to retain technical hands-on mechanical design responsibility (70% of your time) whilst leading, developing, and growing a mechanical engineering team (currently 2 other Mechanical Engineers).
• Experience of vehicle engineering design is required, specific experience of any of the following areas would be advantageous, vehicle architectures, mechanical systems, chassis design, vehicle payloads, systems integration.
• Experience of off-road or specialist vehicle applications would be advantageous e.g., defence / military / construction / agricultural / low volume vehicles.
• You will be degree qualified in a mechanical engineering or similar engineering discipline.
• You must be eligible for UK security clearance (British or European nation passport holder).

Your Responsibilities as the Lead Engineer:

• Lead the mechanical development of new vehicle concepts from requirements capture through to delivery of prototype vehicles.
• Support the enhancement, evolution, and industrialisation of vehicles.
• Technically responsible for mechanical systems at vehicle systems, sub-system, and component level.
• Lead, and develop the mechanical engineering and foster a close, collaborative working relationship with a group engineering team.
• Actively contribute and/or lead on the development of engineering processes and procedures within the UK business as it continues to grow.

This Lead Engineer job is commutable from Coventry, Leicester, Rugby, Lichfield, Tamworth, Burton upon Trent, Coleshill, Northampton, Hinckley, Coalville, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Loughborough, and surrounding areas.
