Job description

The Sensory Education Support Team is part of the wider Inclusion Team and works closely with the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Service. We have an exciting new opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to come and join us as a Lead Teacher.

About the Role

The Lead Teacher will promote and ensure the delivery by team members of an effective Sensory Education and Support service to children and young people in mainstream and special educational settings. 

In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to support the team to contribute to the process of Education, Health and Care needs assessments for children and young people with sensory needs as required by the Local Authority under the guidance outlined in the Special Educational Needs and Disability (0-25 years) Code of Practice (2014). 

This role is on teachers' terms and conditions. The salary of £57,966 includes payment on the upper pay scale (assumed teachers' upper pay scale 3 in this instance but this would be subject to confirmation that the successful applicant has reached this point), minimum Teaching and Learning Responsibility 1 (TLR1a) allowance and SEN2 Allowance together.

About You

We are keen to hear from candidates who have Qualified Teacher Status as well as either Qualified Teacher of the Deaf status or is a Qualified Teacher of Children and young people with Visual Impairment or Multisensory Impairment.

It is also essential that you have the following knowledge and skills:

  • Broad SEN experience across all Key Stages in schools
  • A flexible approach that allows for different circumstances and contexts
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A high level of organisational skills and the ability to prioritise demand and work to deadlines.


In addition, the following would be desirable:

  • Experience in carrying out EHC Needs assessments.
  • Previous SENCo experience at a strategic senior management level.
  • SENCo National Award qualification

 

Due to the requirement of travel for this role a driving license is also required.
