The opportunity

Medivet have an opportunity for a lead vet to join the team at our practice in Horsford.

Medivet Horsford is a spacious, well equipped practice that until very recently was a 24-hour centre for the region so alongside everything you’d expect, the team have access to specialist equipment that enables them to provide a high standard of care to all patients across a wide range of procedures. They also see a mix of small animal and exotics (around a 70-30 split) making this a great opportunity for any vet looking to run a practice and expand their skillset or an experienced vet with an exotics interest.

Situated six miles north of Norwich Horsford provides a great balance of country living with great access to everything a city provides. The village is known for it’s sense of community and connection to it’s rural roots with quaint cottages and tree lined streets creating an inviting and peaceful atmosphere. It also provides everything needed for daily living with shops, café’s and essential services dotting the village. Well connected via road with the A140 and A1270 connecting the village to Norwich and Cromer or Ipswich respectively isolation is not an issue. Though Horsford doesn’t have it’s own station proximity to Norwich allows for rail travel across the country.

This is a permanent, full-time role working 39 hours per week over four days with 1:3 half weekends but we’re open to being flexible where we can so let us know what works for you.

We can also support Certificates of Sponsorship for a Tier 2 (General) Visa if you meet the criteria and are eligible to register as a Veterinary Surgeon with the RCVS upon arrival in the UK.

Role accountabilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the veterinary team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Ensure all team members provide quality and ethical care to all patients and clients.
  • Conduct thorough examinations and diagnose medical conditions, formulating effective treatment plans.
  • Perform a wide range of surgical procedures.
  • Prescribe medication.
  • Offer expert advice to pet owners, addressing their concerns and discussing treatment options.
  • Ensure compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statutes, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain patients medical records.
  • Uphold compliance with all legal and ethical standards in veterinary medicine.
  • Assist in recruiting and training new veterinary staff with the support of the relevant support centre teams.
  • Manage the performance, budget and overall profitability of the practice with support from regional teams.

Your skills and experience

Clinical expertise: 

  • Proficiency in performing a variety of surgical procedures, ranging from routine to more complex procedures.
  • Experience diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions in small animals.
  • Experience in providing emergency veterinary care and managing critical cases.
  • Familiarity with veterinary software, diagnostic tools and medical equipment commonly used in practice.

Professional skills:

  • Effective communication ability, enabling positive interaction with clients, team members, and other stakeholders alongside the ability to explain medical procedures, treatment plans in a clear and empathetic manner.
  • Proficiency in managing a caseload, prioritizing tasks, and effectively managing time.
  • Ability to collaborate with other veterinary professionals, support staff, and specialists to provide comprehensive care for animals.
  • Working alongside our support teams on the business side of veterinary practice, including budgeting, resource allocation, client acquisition and recruitment.
  • Willingness to stay updated with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine through continuing education, workshops, and conferences via our package of CPD allowance and days off.

Personal abilities:

  • A strong sense of empathy and compassion towards animals and their owners, along with the ability to provide emotional support in difficult situations.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to handle complex cases and unexpected medical situations alongside the team in practice.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients, colleagues in practice and regional support teams.
  • Ability to manage conflict within the team alongside our people team or with clients in practice in a professional and constructive manner.
