A fantastic opportunity to work in a specialist further education college offering both day and 38-52 week residential placements. They provide holistic education for students aged 16-25 years who have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder and associated mental health conditions. The college uses specialist education approaches, therapeutic support and environments and staffing expertise to prepare students to meet the demands of adult life in a positive way.
Purpose of the Post:
To work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff and with an agreed system of supervision, to implement agreed work programmes with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom. This could include those requiring detailed knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the Tutor in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources. The primary focus will be to ensure learners are making progress in all subjects and maintain good order and to keep learners on task.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow plans and directions from the Tutor or Instructor
Provide pedagogical leadership to the LSA team and coaching where applicable.
Support the delivery of the college curriculum up to and including Level 3 Qualifications
Leading learning on occasion, when appropriate and required.
Establishing productive working relationships with learners, acting as a role model an setting high expectations.
Supporting learners consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.
Attending to learners’ personal needs and provide advise to assist in their social, health, and hygiene development, during the college day.
Working with the Tutor in lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans as appropriate.
Establishing constructive relationships and communicating with other agencies/professionals, to support the achievement and progress of learners.
Establish productive working relationships with learners, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
The successful candidate ideally must have a recognised Level 3 supporting teaching and learning qualification. It is essential that you have previously supported post 16 students with SEN, or have a background in special education at any key stage. You must be a team player to work as a team to manage challenging situations, at the same time to be able to use initiative to work independently.
