Job description

Job Title: Legacy Manager

Responsible to: Legacy and Seat Fundraising Lead 

Salary: Circa £37,000

Tenure: Contract

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week

Location: Lib Dems Headquarters, Westminster, London (at least 1 day per week after a settling in period where more direct contact will be required, Covid restrictions allowing) and working from home.

 

Purpose of role

As the next General Election approaches, this is an exciting time to be joining the Liberal Democrat Fundraising team and play a vital role at HQ as we prepare for an election that is likely to see a very significant shift in our political landscape.  With a hung parliament likely, the Liberal Democrats have an opportunity to hold the balance of power and our fundraising activities are essential to our success. Working within our Major Donor Fundraising Team, you will develop our successful Legacy Programme through an increase in marketing activities via digital & physical outreach, expanding our marketing and managing a free will writing service.

 

Background

You will be joining an experienced fundraising team that is focused on mobilising support from major donors for the general election. We have ambitious targets to reach, and the political momentum is with us. We are looking for a highly organised, motivated, and entrepreneurial team member with strong legacy fundraising skills and an interest in politics. You will be a strong team player, willing to take on other aspects of the work of the team including engagement with our legacy programme donors and the processing of legacy donations. Following an exceptional year for legacy income, we have ring fenced marketing budget for legacy spend in 2024 and 2025. 

 

Key Responsibilities: Legacy

  1. Increase the number of donors leaving a legacy to the party via an increase in marketing and outreach, email campaigns, postal mailers, free will writing promotions and new initiatives.
  2. Manage relationships with donors in our Legacy Society including arranging events to thank them for their membership.
  3. Manage our Future Fund & Legacy Society communications, informing and thanking members and encouraging the shift to residuary vs pecuniary gifts
  4. Process legacy donations, liaising with executors and solicitors.  
  5. Promote legacy fundraising to regional and local parties

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, assertive, motivated and highly organised individual with experience of legacy fundraising who will thrive in an externally-facing role and a fast-paced work environment. 

 

Essential Skills and Experience

  1. At least 3 years of experience in legacy fundraising or similar field and administration
  2. Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise
  3. Confident communicator who is able to approach legacy donors and prospects, engage them effectively and make a direct ask in person and by phone and email.
  4. Able to engage donors in political conversationsAn interest in politics
  5. Self-starter with strong organisational and time management skills
  6. Excellent writing skills and experience in drafting materials and communications for donors
  7. Flexibility to work some evenings throughout the year and to travel outside of London for our party conferencesspring and autumn conferences.
  8. Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats

 

Desirable Skills and Experience

  1. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge & Salesforce databases
  2. Knowledge of PPERA compliance
  3. Research experience
  4. Management experience
  5. Ability to prioritise competing tasks
  6. Experience in a management role
