Are you passionate about library services and eager to support readers in their quest for knowledge? The Bodleian Libraries is seeking an experienced and self-motivated individual with knowledge of Japanese to join our team as a T emporary Library Assistantfor 12 weeks.
Duties:
- Reader Services: Welcome visitors and register readers, providing orientation to the library and assisting with reading room procedures. Respond to inquiries in person, by phone, and online, guiding readers to resources and services.
- Frontline Support: Manage transactions at the frontline desk, including issuing, returning, and renewing materials. Administer reserve collections, room bookings, and inter-library loans, ensuring smooth operations and excellent customer service.
- Library Operations: Maintain security during opening hours, and assist readers.
- Promotion and Support: Assist in promoting library services and collections through various channels. Provide support for the development of electronic resources and online subject guides.
- Stock Management: Ensure materials are returned in good condition, conduct minor repairs, and manage stock movements safely. Handle rare and fragile items with care.
Essential Skills
- Knowledge of Japanese
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently. Familiarity with library operations and electronic resources is desirable.
