Job description

The Bodleian Libraries is seeking a Legal Deposit Operations Assistant for the Collections and Resource Description (C&RD) department within Collections Management. Collections Management has over 110 staff based in Oxford and Swindon. C&RD is comprised of Acquisitions Services, Asian and Middle-Eastern Technical Services, Legal Deposit Operations, and Resource Description. As part of the larger Collections Management Department, C&RD is responsible for collection policy and management, acquisitions of both print and electronic material, cataloguing, serials, Legal Deposit (print and non-print), e-resources and negotiation/contact with suppliers. It is also responsible for Gold Open Access APC payments, and the organisation of the UKRR initiative at Oxford. Whilst the selection of library materials is done by subject consultants, C&RD is responsible for the management, monitoring and reporting of the library materials budget. As a Library Assistant in Legal Deposit Operations you will assist in all areas of Legal Deposit Operations as required. You will claim where required, receive and process the intake of all printed material types arriving under Legal Deposit and donation and apply the required pre- and post- cataloguing processes dependent on the identified final location of items. This includes material received from the Agency for the Legal Deposit Libraries (ALDL), direct deposits and British material received as a result of donations. You will work on the transition of print deposit to e-legal-deposit under the guidance of the Legal Deposit Team Leader. You will also work closely with the Periodicals Cataloguing Team, create Serial Minimum Level Records and set up current periodicals for subsequent online registration and claiming. You will have good organisational skills and be a self-motivated, supportive, enthusiastic and dependable team player.  You will have the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team without constant supervision. You will have the ability to perform routine library tasks accurately and efficiently under pressure, whilst meeting multiple deadlines and maintaining accuracy, high quality and precise work. You will be educated to at least GCSE standard or equivalent and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will have basic IT skills and a willingness to learn and apply new knowledge quickly. You will be able to cope with changing situations and as well to prioritise positively and effectively. You will have experience in and an awareness of manual handling. All necessary health and safety training alongside appropriate aids will be provided. This is a permanent, full-time post, working 36.5 hours per week. You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement/supporting evidence form as part of your online application. Your supporting statement/supporting evidence form should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. University employees enjoy 38 days’ paid holiday, generous pension schemes, travel discounts, and a variety of professional development opportunities. Our range of other employee benefits and discounts also includes free entry to the Botanic Gardens and University colleges, and discounts at University museums.
