Litigation Paralegal – Bristol City Centre
We are looking for a Paralegal to support and assist our Litigation team, based at our office in Bristol city centre.
Our busy and successful team comprises two Partners, two Senior Associates, one Associate, three Solicitors, (at least) one Trainee Solicitor, two Secretaries and an Administrative Assistant. The department’s work includes property litigation, employment, contentious probate, and civil and commercial litigation, including debt recovery. We act for both Claimants and Defendants/Respondents and take on varied and interesting casework.
We work closely with other departments, including Corporate + Commercial and Commercial Property , and we look to develop new sources of work, as well as maintain relationships with existing contacts and clients.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Head of Department, James Bell, and will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of claims. You will be supporting the team in undertaking legal work, conducting legal research, assisting with new enquiries, as well as being involved in marketing tasks and preparing submissions for legal directories (Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners).
The role
The successful candidate will undertake legal work (under supervision) and provide support to the team, and wider department, in order to provide a profitable contribution to the department in line with the firm’s plans.
On a day-to-day basis, work will include (but is not limited to):
- Legal work: completing work in a timely manner, taking instructions from clients, keeping detailed file notes of instructions, file opening and closing procedures, undertaking compliance checks, identifying appropriate funding and applying for LEI, completing relevant forms, submitting/issuing claims, dealing with appropriate court proceedings, legal research, drafting relevant correspondence, monitoring cases, billing, updating checklists/tasks lists, drafting relevant documents, including court papers and instructions to Counsel, preparing bundles, attending court, taking meeting minutes, updating cost estimates, and time recording and billing.
- Supporting the Secretaries and Administrative Assistant within the team as appropriate.
- Working with the Marketing and Business Development team on drafting website case reports and blogs, and preparing legal directory submissions. You may also be required to attend relevant networking events as appropriate.
- Cross departmental excellence: ensuring a high level of communication across the firm and be a representative of the Litigation team.
- Complying with the firm’s policies and procedures, including but not limited to accounts procedures and compliance.
- The Paralegal may not sign post or give any undertakings on behalf of the firm.

The ideal candidate
Our ideal candidate will have experience in Dispute Resolution/Litigation law and be familiar with the Civil Procedure Rules and relevant legislation. However, previous experience is not essential and full ‘on-the-job’ training will be provided.
The successful applicant will have a flexible approach in order to manage a varied workload, be capable of managing their own time effectively, be IT literate and confident using and adapting to new systems and processes, and know how to use a time recording facility.
Location and working hours
- Full-time (office hours are 9am – 5.15pm, Monday to Friday).
- Part-time can be considered (four days per week minimum).
- The role is based at our Bristol city centre office on Prince Street, with the option to apply for hybrid working upon successful completion of your probation.
