An enthusiastic and skilled gardener to work on a 75 acre estate situated within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The gardens consist of approximately 7 acres of herbaceous borders, terraces, walled garden, formal and informal lawns, whilst the wider estate includes parkland, paddocks and woodland.
You will be required to work 5 days per week, Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm.
Duties
- Maintain the gardens and grounds to the highest horticultural standards
- Rotate crops, cultivate, harvest and prune fruit and vegetables in walled garden
- General garden maintenance such as hedge cutting, leaf collecting, weeding, moss control etc.
- Work with owners on suggested planting plan
- Lawn maintenance
- Maintenance of garden machinery and equipment
- Managing fruit trees and general tree health
- Check health of plants and deal with pests and diseases appropriately
- Tend to herbaceous borders, topiary and walled garden
- Further developing the composting system
- Work with groundsman/gardener to help maintain the wider estate
- Assist other members of staff as and when needed
Candidate requirements:
- You will need to have strong horticultural experience/training and knowledge.
- Demonstrable knowledge of plant, tree and lawn maintenance is essential with horticultural qualifications and tickets such as PA1/PA6 spraying and chainsaw certificates being advantageous but not essential.
- A sound understanding of general garden machinery, their uses and maintenance. Confident in driving an ATV.
- The family are looking for a candidate who is happy to be hands-on, be content working in the garden alone as well as part of a team
- You will need to be practically minded, with good physical fitness, an eye for detail and proactive approach
- You need to be looking to make a long term commitment and be keen to be part of a friendly household team
- It is essential that you are pet friendly
- A driver is required
