The role of a Support Worker is very diverse where no two days are the same. You will be working closely with our young people, building positive and professional relationships, whilst encouraging them into independence and adulthood with safeguarding being your top priority. We are recruiting hardworking, committed and resilient individuals as full time or part time Support Workers, sleep ins are required as part of the role and are in addition to the contracted hours, Live in opportunities also available.

JOB DESCRIPTION Position: Support Worker - LIVE IN.

Reports to: Home Manager and Business Operations Manager

Location: Various Supported Living accommodations within Derby

Job Overview

To ensure the physical, emotional and other daily support needs of children / young people are provided within a supportive, homely, professional and caring environment.

To work within Government Guidance; Ofsted regulations, the Local Authorities guidance/service specification and Purelife care services Accommodation policies and procedures in order to meet National Standards, and meet the needs and achieve good outcomes for the young people in the homes.

To support the development of an organisational culture that puts our core values at the heart of everything that we do.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

· To ensure that support is provided within a professional, positive and homely environment which positively integrates race, spirituality, gender, disability and sexual orientation and meets individual needs.

· To lone work in designated homes, follow the lone working policy and procedure in addition to the lone working training as provided.

· To establish positive relationships with the young people, assessing needs and working jointly in producing, implementing, delivering and revising individual support plans.

· To work with young people individually and in groups with the aim of enhancing relationships, self-confidence, social skills, managing personal behaviour and life skills.

· To organise and participate in activities for young people.

· To work to provide a positive, welcoming and stimulating environment for the young people including carrying out cleaning, gardening and other domestic duties.

· To adhere to all reporting and recording procedures and ensure the production of timely reports and correspondence to a professional level.

· To communicate effectively with other agencies and professionals, and when requested prepare written reports.

· To be responsible for dealing with petty cash and other purchasing duties in accordance with established procedures and policies, ensuring that all petty cash dealt with is accurately recorded and reported.

· To act as a corporate parent to the young people, providing guidance and support to the young people whilst maintaining professional boundaries at all times.

· To work with a young person and ensuring key working sessions are carried out in a timely and appropriate manner.

· To ensure all duties associated with running the home during a shift are completed to a high standard. Such duties include: daily observations, log book entries, completing running records, updating weekly planners, key worker sessions, fire safety, health and safety checks and any other documentation implemented by the management team.

· Ensuring that all other duties commensurate with running the home are completed to a high standard. Such duties include: household chores, cleaning, gardening duties and any shopping.

· To be responsible for the management of shifts as required.

· To ensure necessary liaison and communication takes place within the home and outside with families, other members of the business, education providers, other agencies and the local community.

· To attend, with guidance, court proceedings, child protection conferences, panels etc and contribute reports and information as requested.

· To act immediately upon any suspicion, evidence, allegation or concern in relation to safeguarding in accordance with safeguarding children and young people policies and procedures.

· To work on designated projects as required and to keep abreast of developments within the profession.

· To complete training provided by Purelife care services or other providers to enable you to deliver the highest quality support, by the deadlines outlined. Responsibilities of all Purelife care services staff, casual workers and managers Ambassador for Purelife care services.

· To act as an advocate and ambassador of Purelife care services; promoting and exemplifying the culture, core values, mission, vision, and ethos and to positively and proactively protect the reputation of the business.

· Other Duties To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by your Line Manager or anyone else designated by the Business Operations Manager or Directors, as necessary.

· To work in a flexible way to ensure that workload is completed and to undertake any other jobs commensurate with the seniority of the post.

· To exercise discretion in the performance of the duties of the post, to use best practice and to ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.

· To establish, maintain and enhance team-working with colleagues and staff of Purelife care services and to keep confidential all information about individuals and the business of Purelife care services. Any breach of confidentiality will be treated seriously and may lead to dismissal.

· To adhere to the Health and Safety policies at all times.

Ideally you will have:

  • At least an NVQ level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent youth related qualification
  • Minimum of 1 year working in a residential setting
  • Excellent safeguarding experience
  • A recent fully enhanced DBS ( or be prepared to have one processed with us )
  • Good experience of key working Looked After Children with complex caseloads
  • Good standard of written work and ability to complete key working reports, care plans and progress reports.
  • Excellent work ethic and passion for working to progress young people to successful independence
  • Good experience of Child Sexual Exploitation, Criminal Exploitation and County Lines. Including LAC / MISPER processes
  • Knowledge and experience of working of substance misuse / therapeutic intervention
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour and engage with young people in care
  • Full drivers licence ( desirable )
