Job description
We are looking for a practical, hands-on and competent Gardener with strong, technical knowledge in horticulture to take ownership of high-end manicured gardens and grounds within a country estate in Gloucestershire, near Cirencester.
The candidate will be comfortable working alone day-to-day in their role but happy to be part of a wider team that may call upon them from time-to-time within the principal’s country estate.
The candidate will be accountable to the onsite Estate Manager and will be willing to take instruction when required and equally work entirely independently the rest of the time.
Day-to-day work will be managed by the individual and Estate Manager and comprise weeding, pruning, transplanting, watering, deadheading, mowing and any other non-related garden tasks that are asked of by the Estate Manager on an ad hoc basis.
Assistance with weekend events may be asked of you but with plenty of notice given.
Areas of knowledge/experience required for the role:
Herbaceous perennials
Formal lawn care
Ornamental tree pruning
Irrigation systems and watering pots
Topiary
Fruit and veg propagation/production
Ground maintenance - patio care, grit salting paths, mowing paddocks, chipping branches
Practical ability required for the role:
Happy to work outside in all weather
Detailed weeding and pruning
Mowing - push along and ride on
Competent in use of a range of hand and power tools
Competent in use of a range of machinery - chainsaw, strimming, knapsack sprayer, hedge cutter, mowers, pressure washer
This role would suit a candidate with the skills and mindset ready for a step up to take sole responsibility for a high level garden and grounds maintenance; or equally suitable for a head gardener who wants no responsibility in people/team management.
We are looking for an emotionally intelligent individual who can hold a conversation with the owner when required but equally knows when to keep calm and quiet when the atmosphere presents itself.
We are looking for a strong communicator with great interpersonal skills that’s approachable and enjoys their job role and level of responsibility.
Salary: £35,000-£40,000 GPA
