This is a permanent full time position working Monday to Thursday 7.45am-4.30pm and Friday 7.30am-12.30pm with no weekend working! Salary on offer is approx. £42-45k per annum plus benefits and annual bonus of £4-5k per annum!
As Machine Shop Manager you will report into the Operations Manager, supervising and managing around 12 direct reports in the CNC department including the PIVATIC punch/ fold machine. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervise component manufacture in accordance with the production schedule issued by Production Control.
- Ensure all machinery is safe to use, reporting immediately and taking remedial action if any machinery is unsafe or not functioning correctly.
- Ensure all guarding is in place and is fit for purpose.
- Advise the Operations Manager of any maintenance or consumables requirements.
- Continually assess production methods and propose better working practices.
- Check first offs conform to specification. Continually check and monitor component quality.
- Monitor raw material stock levels weekly and liaise with Purchasing and Production Control about stock requirements.
- Liaise with production control for order requirements and report any deficiencies or concerns that might jeopardise the production schedule.
- Making sure there is sufficient staffing to fulfil order requirements, anticipating and arranging overtime and signing off as necessary.
- Ensure the finished components match the expected quality standards in readiness for paint.
- Allocate/ book completed works orders on ERP system (Sage 200).
- Be fully responsible for and implement Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements in the CNC department.
- Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies and Insurance inspectors are coordinated and deficiencies minimised and corrected.
We are really keen to hear from applicants with the following skills and experience:
- Previous experience as a Machine Shop Manager, Press Shop Manager, Engineering Manager or similar
- Good knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing
- Prior knowledge of CNC turret punching machines, Amada press brakes and Radan software is all required to be successful in this role
- CNC Programming would be advantageous
- Strong people management skills
- Any lean manufacturing techniques would be desirable
- Good IT skills with some knowledge of ERP or MRP systems and basic Excel skills
