Are you an experienced Maintenance Assistant/equivalent?
Have you worked as a Maintenance Assistant/equivalent within the NHS, Healthcare or Public Sector?
Do you hold a Hold a safety qualification such as CSCS Skilled Worker, Experienced Worker, Health, and Safety passport scheme or equivalent?
Do you hold a City & Guilds qualification, NVQ3 and/or a recognised qualification within building trades?
Do you have working knowledge of the application of Health & Safety legislation regarding general maintenance areas?
Do you have awareness of and the ability to interpret, and create drawings, specifications, schedules, and plans?
Do you hold a full driving license?
Are you able to work in Dorchester, Dorset on a temporary basis, expected to last for 3 months with the ability to commence employment immediately or within 1 week if successful?
Maintenance Assistant
Location: Dorchester, Dorset

Pay Rates: £12 PAYE inclusive of holiday pay or £13.50 Umbrella per hour
Working Days and Hours: : 37.5hrs per week during Mon-Friday
JOB PURPOSE
To work as part of the Fabric Team to support the activities of the Estates and Facilities Department in the assessment, maintenance, decoration, and repair of the hospital estate by responding to requests from end-users, planning and undertaking general maintenance tasks related to all properties, conducting minor installations and repairs to the structure fabric, fixtures, and fittings. Working within the Estates Department you will work to cover our client’s site in its entirety, plus off-site locations. You will be required to work unsupervised within departmental standard operating procedures and prioritise your work schedule.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Build and maintain good working relationships and communicate effectively with users of the services, colleagues, and external contractors.
* Be an active member of the team and be flexible in your approach to work.
* Plan and organise own work within the work schedule to provide an efficient service to all wards and departments.
* Provide and receive routine information orally, in writing or electronically to inform work colleagues, patients, clients, the public or other external contacts, i.e., maintenance management system, work related documents and records.
* Provide advice, instruction, or training to groups, where the subject matter is straightforward.
* Analyse allocated jobs and delivery options and delivers the best solution.
* Interpret all appropriate instructions, drawings, and specifications, and communicate these effectively with other parties who may not be specialists in the technical field.
* Provide and receive routine information which requires tact or persuasive skills or where there are barriers to understanding.
* Understand a range of work procedures and practices, the majority of which are non-routine, which may require intermediate level theoretical knowledge.
* Make good judgements involving facts or situations, some of which require analysis.
* Organise own day-to-day work tasks or activities, coordinating and cooperating with others.
* Assist patients/clients during incidental contacts.
* Implement policies for own work area and proposes changes to working practices or procedures for own work area.
* Be responsible for the safe use of equipment other than equipment which they personally use and be responsible for maintaining stock control and/or security of stock.
* Provide advice or demonstrate own activities or workplace routines to new or less experienced employees in own work area.
* Create and maintain electronic and written records, use the work control components of the departmental CAFM (Computer Aided Facilities Management) software and other similar systems related to the role.
* Undertake surveys or audits, trials or equipment testing, as necessary to own work or that of the department.
* To carry out other duties as delegated by the Estates Officer relevant to the post/department.
* To participate in appropriate training as required by this position and determined by the Estates Management Staff.
Please Note: Part of this role will have an ongoing requirement to exert light physical effort, or a frequent requirement to exert moderate physical effort for several long periods during a shift, or an occasional requirement to exert intense physical effort for several short periods during a shift including frequent use of ladders and working at height. You will also be required to undertake tasks with space restriction.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
City & Guilds qualification, NVQ3
A recognised qualification in the building trades
Hold a safety qualification such as a CSCS Skilled Worker, Experienced Worker, Health, and Safety passport scheme or equivalent.
First Aid qualification and customer service qualification (preferable)
Highly developed physical skills accuracy important; manipulation of fine tools, materials, etc.
Working knowledge of the application of Health & Safety legislation regarding general maintenance areas.
Understand, interpret and create drawings, specifications, schedules and plans
Full UK driving licence
Construction and maintenance skills, including familiarity with the relevant regulations and guidance.
Be willing to work in occasionally / frequent unpleasant conditions where necessary
Recent and significant post qualification experience, preferably within a healthcare environment.
Experience of working to deadlines and prioritising own workload
Experienced on working on large estates in complex working environments
Previous experience of working within hospitals (preferable)
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work on own initiative
IT literate, e.g., email, MS Office, CAFM software.
