Mechanical Maintenance Technician

£26,000 - £32,000 per annum
Full Time, 40hrs per week (06.30am to 2.30pm and 2pm to 10pm on a rotating basis)
1st Choice are currently representing an industry leading aerospace company based in Bedford. They are seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join their world class team on a permanent basis.
As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and upkeep of mechanical systems and equipment within their facilities. This role involves executing scheduled tasks, conducting inspections, and carrying out repairs as directed by team leaders to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
You will monitor operating conditions, record data, and lead small projects for plant and procedural enhancements. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to maintenance.
Please note: Due to the nature of the role, applicants are required to have been residing in the UK for at least 5 years.
Responsibilities
· Conducting inspections, repairs, and planned maintenance on testing equipment.
· Troubleshooting and repairing equipment during breakdowns.
· Operating and monitoring compressors as needed for testing, recording control readings.
· Assisting with installation/decommissioning of new equipment and suggesting design improvements.
· Supporting mechanical maintenance for other on-site facilities when requested.
· Documenting completed work and time taken for reference and competency assessment.
· Contributing to engineering risk assessments and adhering to health and safety protocols.
· Participating in directed training sessions, including role-specific and health & safety training.
· Adhering to site security and quality assurance procedures.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Completion of a Mechanical Apprenticeship, ideally with ONC/BTEC/NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering.
· Technical understanding of HP Air systems, water cooling and treatment systems (desired), lubrication and hydraulic systems, and mechanical machinery.
· Proficiency in bearings, seals, gaskets, gears, cams, levers, and linkages.
· Ability to coach and mentor junior staff, with a positive and flexible attitude.
· Attention to detail, commitment to quality work, and a drive to improve skills.
· Problem-solving mentality, good communication skills, and self-motivation.
