The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge (LMB) is an internationally recognised scientific research institution.
We are looking to recruit a full-time Maintenance Technician to join the Estates and Facilities team on a permanent contract. As part of the team, and dependant on your experience and expertise, your focus will be either be electrical or mechanical (or multi-skilled). As such you will be responsible for providing electrical and/or mechanical planned and preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance (RM) on all plant systems and services. You will also be responsible for interrogating the computer-controlled Building Management Systems (BMS) to monitor and identify fault diagnostics, taking the appropriate action to resolve these. You will oversee the operation of the steam boilers and systems; steam is used extensively throughout our sites and training will be given as required.
The LMB buildings, on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Babraham Research Campus, are required to be maintained and kept fully operational 24/7, to meet the scientific requirements. You will be required to be available on-call out-of-hours approximately 6-8 weeks per year (on a rota basis). You must hold a UK driving licence and live within a 30-mile radius of the LMB building. Opportunities to work Overtime are also available.
You will have completed a recognised electrical or mechanical apprenticeship or hold the equivalent qualifications. You will have experience of working in a complex building with responsibility for electrical and/or mechanical systems and have a good working knowledge of engineering services and building maintenance. You will be IT competent and familiar with handheld devices and “smart” technology. You will be a team-player who can also work independently, and with limited supervision. You will possess the ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels as well as service providers carrying out contractor work.
A salary towards the top of the advertised scale will be considered for candidates with significant experience.
