Manager / Tour Leader for Specialist Cultural Tour Operator
ArtsAbroad is a small specialist cultural travel operator. We organise high-level cultural tours for supporters of leading visual and performing arts institutions to destinations around the globe. We are looking to recruit an experienced Manager / Tour Leader to join our expanding team at a senior level. This role would suit somebody with experience in the travel and/or events industries. Candidates should have several years experience at Tour Leader / management level, with strong organisational skills, good people skills, a strong attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, good written English and a natural ability to communicate. A working knowledge of additional European languages would be a bonus, and candidates must have the flexibility to travel for several weeks throughout the year.
The role will include office-based tour planning, as well as international travel and tour leading.
Responsibilities will include:
Office based work:
- Designing, planning and costing tours Negotiating contracts Liaising with clients Writing itineraries Taking responsibility for tour finances Managing the office team
Leading tours:
- Ensuring all arrangements run smoothly and in a timely fashion
- Dealing with complex itineraries
- Being responsible for the welfare of the group
- Overseeing daily logistics
- Liaising with expert lecturers and local guides
- Having the ability to cope calmly and efficiently at all times
Experience & skills required - the applicant should have:
- English as a mother-tongue or be totally proficient in both spoken and written English
- Proficient knowledge (spoken and written) of other European languages a bonus
- An interest in art / art history / contemporary art a bonus but is not essential
- Prior experience of tour leading would be an advantage but is not essential
- The ability to prioritise
- Strong decision-making skills, particularly under pressure
- Attention to detail is essential
- Good communication skills
- Be able to exercise good judgement and show initiative
- Be a good team player
- Proficient IT skills (ideally Apple Mac), with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word; experience using Adobe InDesign would be a bonus but not essential
Salary: Salary commensurate with experience
