Head of Data Product & Pipeline Engineering

Job Description:

The Data Product and Pipeline Engineering organization is entrusted with creating, managing, and evolving a cutting-edge data platform essential for the diverse needs of our global clientele, including investors, operations teams, and data scientists. Our aim is to architect a data infrastructure that not only meets the current demands but is also scalable for future expansion, leveraging modern data engineering technologies to maintain our leadership in the financial sector.

As a Managing Director, you will lead the entire spectrum of Data Product and Pipeline Engineering teams, encompassing Reference, Index, Market, and Client Data. This role is pivotal in strategizing, architecting, and delivering solutions that are crucial for the scalability and efficiency of our data ecosystem. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving the adoption of scaled Agile development practices and modern data technologies across global teams, ensuring that BlackRock remains at the forefront of technological innovation in the financial industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategy and execution for the development and maintenance of BlackRock's Data Productsand Pipelines, ensuring alignment with the firm’s growth objectives and technological vision.
  • Drive the architecture and implementation of scalable data solutions utilizing modern technologies such as Snowflake, DBT, Airflow, and Python.
  • Champion Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies across global teams to enhance productivity, foster innovation, and ensure timely delivery of data capabilities.
  • Provide visionary leadership in modern data engineering practices, advocating for best practices in data modeling, data quality, and metadata management.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, encouraging the exploration and adoption of cutting-edge technologies and practices in data engineering.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse and high-performing team, ensuring skill development and career progression within the organization.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders across the firm to understand evolving data needs, ensuring the data platform remains responsive to dynamic market conditions and internal requirements.
  • Ensure robust governance, compliance, and risk management practices are embedded within all data engineering activities, aligning with BlackRock’s standards and regulatory obligations.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Over 15 years of experience in data engineering, with significant leadership experience in managing large, global teams and complex projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in architecting large-scale data solutions, with a strong emphasis on modern data engineering technologies including Snowflake, DBT, Airflow, and Python.
  • Proven track record in leading scaled Agile transformations and promoting a culture of innovation within data engineering teams.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate future trends and challenges in data engineering.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging and influencing senior stakeholders across the organization.
  • Passion for technology and innovation, with a continuous learning mindset and willingness to explore new technologies and methodologies.

Our hybrid work model
