Job description

Who we are:

IFOW's mission is to shape a fairer future through better work.  Our goal is a good society in which everyone can flourish through this new technological revolution, and our belief is that creating and sustaining good work is the best way to achieve this goal and ensure that innovation and social good advance together.

We believe ‘good work’ can be an outcome of technological change, if, and when: government prioritises and creates; regulators steer and intervene; industry develops and models; civil society is engaged and informs; academia carries out research; and industry prioritises and requires.

Role Overview:

IFOW has a track record of rigorous and authoritative research, with a clear communications goal of making IFOW the go-to voice in the debate around the future of work. We are seeking a Comms and Events Associate working at 0.5 FTE who can accelerate this goal, shaping a growing organisation to clearly demonstrate its significant impact. Reporting to the Head of Comms, this role serves the needs of the whole organisation in implementing the IFOW Comms strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit a wide range of content including blogs, newsletters, press releases, reports, briefing materials and presentations.

  • Create, plan and publish content for IFOW’s social media channels to increase engagement and reach influential stakeholders.

  • Update and maintain the IFOW website.

  • Support on a range of events (both in-person and online) - from conception, planning and execution - including conferences, parliamentary events and workshops.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A track record in delivering Comms work, preferably in a technology, policy or social justice environment

  • Excellent writing and proof-reading skills across a range of formats and for a range of audiences, with the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling storytelling

  • Strong digital skills with experience of optimising websites and social media to drive engagement

  • Familiarity with applications such as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop

  • Experience in managing events and liaising with senior stakeholders

  • A strong commitment to the mission, goals and ethos of IFOW

  • Good face-to-face communication and the ability to be at ease with people from a wide range of backgrounds and profiles

  • A strategic mindset and the ability to offer and receive constructively critical feedback

  • The ability to work both collaboratively and independently, comfortable with making decisions at pace and sometimes in a changing and uncertain environment

  • Great organisational skills and the ability to stay on top of many large and small tasks simultaneously, as well as a commitment to quality and attention to detail

Please note that applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and so we advise applying as soon as possible

You must have the right to work in the UK - as a small charity, we are not able to sponsor visa applications.

Should you need to make an application in a different format or require any adjustments as part of the application process, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
