Salary: £29,605 to £30,487 with progression to £32,982 per annum

The Role
Newcastle University is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Marketing and Communications Officer to join its Advancement team on a fixed term basis until March 2025.
The post is based within the Advancement Office which makes a powerful contribution to the University’s mission through alumni and supporter engagement and inspirational philanthropy.
The Marketing and Communications Officer will be responsible for planning, developing and integrating innovative and engaging content, across multiple channels, to the University’s alumni and supporter audiences.
You will be a graduate or equivalent with excellent copywriting, editing and proofreading skills. You will be a strong team player, with experience in content planning and integrating messages across a range of communication channels and audiences.
You will develop and deliver engaging Marketing and Communications campaigns across a variety of channels to grow and enhance engagement with our alumni and supporter audiences
The post is based within the Advancement Office which is the home of alumni relations and philanthropy at Newcastle University. The office plays a vital role in building and sustaining relationships with the University’s 270,000 alumni, supporters and stakeholders across the globe, and makes a powerful contribution to the University’s mission through alumni engagement and inspirational giving.

Key Accountabilities
• Develop compelling and engaging copy for a variety of mediums, including websites, marketing collateral, social media, email Marketing and promotional materials
• Responsible for developing and implementing Marketing and Communications campaigns for identified target audiences under the guidance of the Head of Supporter Marketing and Events
• Assisting the Head of Supporter Marketing and Events in maintaining the integrity of the University brand, ensuring all alumni and supporter communications are on brand. Providing support and advice to colleagues within Advancement on branding matters
• Building a bank of communications assets for the Advancement team including video, photography, blogs, case studies, infographics and vlogs
• Evaluating and monitoring the impact of Marketing and Communications campaigns and providing information to inform future planning
• Briefing and managing external communication partners to ensure delivery of high quality results within agreed timescales and budgets
• Undertaking research with priority stakeholder groups to gain insight to inform Marketing and Communications campaigns
• Building internal networks to stay abreast of key University developments and messaging that are relevant for alumni and supporter audiences
• Working with internal communications colleagues to raise the profile of NU Advancement and its objectives to drive a community approach between students, staff and partners
• Supporting live communications at alumni and supporter events, including evening and weekend work where necessary
The Person
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Excellent copywriting, editing and proof-reading skills with an ability to write in a style appropriate to the medium, message and audience
• Clear understanding of the use of different marketing communication tools for different purposes and audiences
• Experience of content planning and integrating content messaging and delivery across a range of marketing channels including email, web, and social media
• Experience of managing and monitoring social media channels
• Experience in photography/video editing and design software e.g. InDesign/Canva/Premier Pro
• Experience of report writing for a range of audiences, analysing data and making recommendations to drive continuous improvement
• Excellent project management skills, including time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of staff and to work well within and across teams
• Proven ability to use initiative and adopt a creative approach to problem solving

Qualifications
• Degree or equivalent level qualification in a relevant discipline with experience in a similar role
