Mechanical Design Engineer

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our team, due to our success and growth, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, duties will include:

• Take a lead in creating Mechanical Designs for handheld rugged devices.
• Propose and draft product designs for various handheld and portable products.
• Carry out cost analysis, compliance considerations with specific standards, Drawings and Bill Of Materials for production (NPI).
• Design solutions for thermal management in handheld devices.
• Design mechanical moving parts (hinges and mechanisms) for handheld devices.
• Support current and new suppliers with technical information and clarifications about design and process methods.
• Carry out analysis and design cases for ingress protection. Design weather sealing and components for sealed designs.
• Produce detailed production and fabrication drawings for machining and additive manufacturing.
• Provide technical support for production and wider engineering teams.
• Design assembly Jigs and tools for the production departments
• Collaborate with other Design Engineers and department to drive the Mechanical Design process to success

Experience and qualifications:

• Minimum of three years’ experience of Mechanical Design of machined parts.
• Minimum three years’ experience in design of outdoor equipment and weather ingress protection.
• Experience in aluminium alloys, stainless steels and plastic materials machining designs.
• Experience designing parts for additive manufacturing.
• Experience in creating assembly drawings for cases containing electronic assemblies and electromechanical components.
• Experience in design of handheld devices - ergonomics and product design.
• Experience in electronic enclosure of RF technology an advantage
• Surface modelling of complex shapes for injection moulding or vacuum casting.
• Experience in all stages of product development from specification to full scale production
• Experience in using machines like Lathes, Milling machines and CNC is an advantage
• Experience in CAD/CAM and CNC programming is an advantage
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Skilled user of SolidWorks, Inventor or other similar 3D modelling tools.

- Good team player with and understanding of other disciplines like electronics design, embedded software design, production and wider supply chain.
